HyperMethod helped NIU MGSU to organize holding remote examinations

2020: Start of the platform for examination on the basis of the system of a proktoring

On August 20, 2020 the HyperMethod company announced that NIU MGSU helped with holding remote examinations.

Prerequisites

In the conditions of a quarantine in the summer of 2020 the Russian universities are forced to hold entrance examinations remotely. It means that entrants and teachers should be on different sides of the screen that can create confidence abuse situations. The entrant can look for the help from outside: sends instead of himself for passing an examination of more expert companion or looks for answers to test questions in the next tab of the browser.

To anticipate and prevent such situations, MGSU a transparent system was necessary for remote holding entrance examinations. For development of such platform the staff of the university addressed Gipermetod, using the Gipermetoda programs eLearning Server 4G and eAuthor CBT the university provides access to the remote rates of already 9 years.

Solution

Among the products "Gipermetoda" there was already a solution for holding examinations — the proktoring module. For NIU MGSU it was optimized and finished.

The procedure of a proktoring is a set of the processes allowing to identify the identity of examined and to control its actions on the computer during passing an examination.

As there take place entrance examinations in MGSU

All flow of arriving is divided into groups on 12 people, and the representative of MGSU is assigned to each such group. One person without prejudice to quality of control can watch so many screens, however if desired in a flow maybe there are more entrants.

Cameras of all participants of a flow are brought to one screen, but at the same time the teacher can enter the mode of individual control of each entrant.

Examination is held on the same platform where teachers of MGSU of already 9 years give remote classes — eLearning Server 4G.

To create all conditions for fair examination, the teacher and future student need to enter the Proktoringa mode — to check a system corresponding and to permit the platform access to the webcam and to broadcast of the screen.

At this stage the teacher can watch what occurs on the screen of the entrant and checks whether additional programs cribs are started. At the same stage it is possible to connect also double-stream record of the screen: from the webcam and from broadcast of the screen.

On the next stage the teacher authenticates the entrant — asks to show the passport. If doubts in the identity of the person do not arise, the teacher gives a mark about successful authentication, and the entrant is allowed to examination.

The teacher has a page with the list of all participants of entrance test.

The entrant sees three windows: a window of the webcam of the teacher (if that aired by this certified), a window webcam of the entrant and a window in which certified works. For example, the window with the test or a window with the application program in which it is necessary to perform creative work can be this window.

During the examination the teacher can be in a tab of any of entrants and also instantly move between them. Thus, certified cannot expect what will manage to resort to the help of the friend, the textbook or the Internet. It is possible peep in the book or on the Internet a formula or the answer to a test question, of course — but this fact the teacher can notice. Besides, the fact will get on a video, and results of examination can be cancelled.

Not to be unfounded at detection in the act, the teacher should record the abuse fact. For this purpose he can make the screenshot examined, and it will automatically remain in a system. But for bigger reliability it is possible to include a video of the screen of the entrant and his actions on the computer.

Examinations are also oral. The teacher and the entrant can personally communicate on webcams. If examination does not assume oral communication, the teacher can not turn on the webcam, and to resolve the arising organizational issues with the entrant in a chat.

Results

The platform for examination on the basis of the system of a proktoring was started in August, 2020. For August 20 on it daily there take place examinations, and managers and technical specialists of Gipermetod help teachers to accustom to a system.

On the basis of eLearning Server 4G IOS of Ural Federal University of B.N. Yeltsin, the Moscow state construction university, the Orthodox Christian Sacred Tikhonovsky of humanities university, the Moscow state legal university of O.E. Kutafin, the Nizhny Novgorod state technical university of R.E. Alekseev, the Rostov state transport university and hundreds of other educational organizations are constructed.
