Situation
Research activity of Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI is directly connected using information technologies for the solution of practical tasks in the field of aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, durability of aviation constructions. Methods and means of a CAD, the automated settlement dialogue systems are widely applied to determination of aerodynamic characteristics, durability and weight of aircraft.
More and more wide use of calculation methods for aerodynamic design and optimization of all elements of aircraft resulted in need of upgrade of an automated design engineering system which would allow to create three-dimensional geometrical models, much quicker to receive results of mathematical calculations with a bigger accuracy, to consider parameters which could not be considered in early versions of SAP.
Solution
For the solution of above-mentioned tasks and also for the purpose of automation of research activity by the management of Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI the decision on creation of a new automated design engineering system (SAP-2) was made.
As the contractor the DEPO Computers company having the status of the certified golden Microsoft partner and having examination of creation of high-performance automated systems was selected.
Technical specialists of DEPO Computers together with engineers of Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI and EMT on the basis of requirements imposed to SAP-2 designed the hardware-software platform using technologies of a computing clustering based on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise.

Solution DEPO on a clustering for Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI
The hardware of the platform consists of four DEPO Storm servers, three graphic stations DEPO Race and components of Ethernet-network. The program part of the platform consists of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise integrating four DEPO servers in nodes of a high-performance computing cluster, and a software module of ANSYS CFX applied to solving of tasks of aerodynamics, hydrodynamics and calculation of durability of aviation constructions.
Production and delivery of all necessary components of the hardware-software platform from DEPO Computers significantly increased integration properties of the hardware-software platform and saved from need of selection of additional components that allowed to reduce significantly time of input of a system in operation and to reduce risks of incompatibility.
After carrying out a series of tests and measurements of performance of SAP-2 technical specialists of DEPO Computers together with engineers of Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI and EMT executed installation of a system on the platform of the customer in. Zhukovsky.
Advantages
As a result of implementation of SAP-2 on the basis of a high-performance computing cluster of DEPO in Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI essentially new level of design automation of basic elements of aircraft was reached.
SAP-2 allows to create three-dimensional geometrical models of an outer surface of aircraft, including three-dimensional models of internal configuration. Use of technology of three-dimensional modeling brings conceptual design to new level and allows to accelerate search of new technical solutions.
Opportunity much quicker and with a bigger accuracy to receive results of mathematical miscalculations of constructions using a system of equations of Navier-Stokes for calculation of flow of aircraft and the finite-element method and calculation of the intense deformed status of construction allows to consider "thin" effects which could not be considered in early versions of SAP.
According to V.V. Lazarev, the curator of the project of Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsAGI, "calculation methods are the reliable instrument of aerodynamic design and optimization of all basic elements of aircraft now. As a result of application of SAP-2 the number of tests of models of aircraft in wind tunnels was considerably reduced that allows to reduce resource and time expenditure by design."
Prospects
SAP-2 has high potential of scaling that allows to increase high-speed performance of a system with the minimum labor costs, purchasing only additional nodes of a computing cluster of graphic stations.
