VMK MSU received the server for the program of studying of "Big Data"

On January 26, 2015 it became known of providing the server to faculty VMK Lomonosov Moscow State University for high-performance computing on long term of use. It is unique experience in Russia. The equipment was provided by the SAS Company company SAS^[1].

Project Tasks

Project objective - to provide teaching university rates using technologies of SAS and Big Data and also for the purpose of support of scientific research in this direction.

In September, 2015 the faculty starts implementation of the master program "Intellectual Analysis of Big Data". The technical base which was provided by SAS company is necessary for its execution. Being a participant of the Academic program SAS, the faculty obtained software licenses for carrying out researches and training of students in statistics and analytics.

"During cooperation we created the steady benevolent relations with SAS company. From students there is a great interest to studying of both statistical tools of this company, and methods of work with Big Data. Power and technical capabilities of the provided equipment allow us to expand the program and to begin training in new courses that, certainly, is valuable also to us as leading Russian university, and for those industries where our graduates will go to work", - Evgeny Moiseyev, the dean of faculty VMK MSU, the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor told.

"The selected rather powerful server is the only opportunity to implement Big Data rates. During the work with a cloud service of SAS OnDemand for Academics it is not possible to achieve such data processing rate and such width of analytical opportunities, as when using a special hardware platform", - Mikhail Petrovsky, the head of the Academic program of SAS Russia/CIS, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics said.
