MDM Bank completed upgrade of a server framework

On January 26, 2015 MDM Bank and IBM announced project completion of upgrade of a server framework of bank for ensuring high availability of the key the automated banking systems (ABS) — RBO and IBSO.

Project Tasks

"Dynamic growth of the customer base of MDM Bank and volume of the processed transactions demands from IT infrastructure of a stock of computing resources and an opportunity to react quickly to peak loads. Quickly changing situation in financial markets, promptly entered regulatory changes and busy schedules of an exit of updates of the core banking system create new calls to a hardware platform. The implemented systems will allow us not only to quickly redistribute computing resources depending on growth of loading and change of priorities, but also will significantly reduce operating expenses of bank, and the released computing powers will provide performance stock for the forthcoming migration of the core banking system UniSab in the core banking system RBO", - Elliot Goykhman, CIO of MDM Bank told.

When choosing option of upgrade MDM Bank gave preference to the equipment of IBM, strengthening infrastructure of bank the IBM Power 780 servers with Power 7+ processors and carrying out upgrade of the operated IBM Power 795 server. Project Results

Honor profitability of the project on three quarters it was provided due to removal from operation and removal from technical support of the substituted equipment that gave the chance to pay back the project in one year of operation.

Decrease in energy consumption by 14 KW and heat releases by 47 thousand BTU/h (13.77 thousand kW/hour), reduction of cost of support of a complex helped to cut down operating costs for 30% in addition.

Increase in amount of RAM up to 1TB accelerated formation of the obligatory reporting three times.

With transition to more productive Power7 processors + the number of the processors used for work with bases this decreased, cutting down these expenses on licenses DBMS.

Use of the new IBM Power 780 servers allowed the customer to refuse construction plans of a new data processing center. As a result of upgrade IT infrastructure of bank can be scaled on the capacity and performance more than twice, providing the potential growth of business of bank for the next three years.
