Amazon Workmail

Amazon Workmail is the integrated service of work with calendars, mail records and the address directory built based on a cloud platform of Amazon.

2017

Development of the new project of Amazon is at the initial stage. WorkMail updating — the competing with Google Gmail and Microsoft Exchange Online cloud postal service which was released last year will become its part. As partners of Amazon Web Services said in March, it will be updated as well service of storage of files WorkDocs. These Amazon services will be processed by WorkMail and WorkDocs into the shortest possible time. They will become "more friendly" to corporate users. It is possible that they will be integrated with recently announced service video conferencings Chime.

2015

On January 30, 2015 the Amazon company announced entry into the market in the II quarter 2015 of the Amazon Workmail system. It will add the existing product number of Amazon for corporate users submitted cloud the Zocalo file storage, applications for joint work of WorkDocs and means of virtualization of desktop^[1].

WorkMail is the bekend-mechanism for work with mail which does not have the user interface. By means of integration of Workmail into Microsoft Active Directory or any other corporate service of management of directories, it is easy to build in the new mechanism the operating corporate system without prejudice to its security.

As the interface part WorkMail can be used Microsoft Outlook or other e-mail client including working on Apple iOS or Android. It Amazon offers the market an infrastructure component for creation of the automated cloud service and does not impose to corporate IT department the interface layer.

Means of protecting of security of WorkMail are provided by the enciphering mechanism when sending messages with the subsequent decoding after arrival of data to the destination. The used encryption keys are stored in EC2 "cloud". Corporate users will need to switch to use of the mechanism of key management of AWS Key Management Service. Thereby the corporate security service will be able to reduce considerably the participation in protection of content, having shifted a considerable part of functions to "cloud" of Amazon.

WorkMail will allow to select the place for placement of mail data. Unlike online service Google, the WorkMail service does not limit users to the choice only of resources of provider — Amazon allows placement of data in cloud resources of other vendors.

The corporate packet of Amazon is provided by three basic products. The first — the system of virtualization of the desktop Amazon WorkSpaces systems, the second — a cloud file hosting and service of joint work with the documents Amazon WorkDocs (till August, 2014 it was called Amazon Zocalo), the third — WorkMail postal service.

The official prices on service are not announced yet, however they were sounded in comments of heads of Amazon:

• services of the WorkMail mail with support of service of the calendar and a mailbox up to 50 GB in size will be provided for $4 in month.
• the basic packet complemented with a cloud hosting for documents WorkDocs with a capacity of 200 GB will be costs $6 a month.
