The new project is created at cooperation of companies Pinterest, Tumblr Twitter Yahoo!, Bitly and Dropbox. Developers do not take and will levy a payment for use of services of web service. It differs in it from many other cybersecurity products, Mark Hammel, one of the managers who are responsible for cyber security infrastructure in Facebook noted.

The ThreatExchange social network is constructed on the operating infrastructure of Facebook complemented with API functions for involvement of new partners and more effective fight against hackers in real time.[2]

Users of the created Internet community will be able to share with each other useful data on activity of cybercriminals that will allow to look for new methods of protection against threats. Participants of service can provide any information to certain groups or the companies which, for example, faced the same virus attack.

ThreatExchange is not a just big forum where people tell about the found viruses and the unprotected places in computer systems. Service represents the database of the catalogued threats, access to which is provided by means of a social platform of Facebook.

"We quickly understood that information exchange is a key method in fight against botnets because their elements are placed on our services, but none of us had complete idea of it" — Hammel reported.

Facebook started ThreatExchange after a series of loud network hacking of the large companies, such as Sony Pictures, Anthem and Home Depot. In February, 2015 it became known of formation by the American authorities of the special agency on fight against cyberthreats. The service under the name Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center will collect and analyze information on the whole range of cyberthreats and to inform on them different departments of the USA.
