The Altai state university together with STC of Galex implements a management system for IT assets

One of the largest universities of Siberia implements a single system of management of IT assets - Software Asset Management. The solution the partner of Microsoft company in Altai Krai implements, the largest system integrator of the region – Galex Scientific and technological center.

The Altai state university represents the large scientific complex implementing model of life-long education which part 4 research institutes joint with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science of laboratory, own typographical and publishing complex, the research sector are. Experts of Galex together with IT specialists of ALTGU carried out inventory of all PC park and an installed software of Microsoft, executed reconciliation of the used and purchased licenses, having collected data from the specialized programs and all documents of title containing schemes of purchase and licensing. As a result of the done work up-to-date and structured information about what program assets ALTGU where and how effectively they are used locates is obtained.

On the basis of these data a number of recommendations about management of licenses for the next year and further perspective is developed. Use of approach of SAM on a permanent basis will allow IT specialists of ALTGU to understand at any time what is necessary for software for work what current situation with the available licenses for software whether there are discrepancies and in what amount, and also to reduce finance costs by infrastructure, according to preliminary data, from 3 to 12%.

Completely implemented SAM program will help not only to cut down expenses, but also to raise the security level, to reduce risks and to authentically predict future needs for IT assets.
