Facebook switched to multiterabit architecture of network

On April 6, 2015 the Infinera company announced providing in use of Facebook company of architecture of an intelligent transport network of Infinera (Intelligent Transport Network) providing capacity up to 8 Tbit / with in a data network.

Project Results

Length of a route is 3998 km without regeneration of service. Data transfer rate 8 Tbit / with is sufficient for simultaneous stream broadcasting more than one million videos in high resolution.

The European land network Facebook connects DPC in the city of Lulea (Sweden) to the largest telecommunication nodes of Europe. Facebook uses different solutions from Infinera portfolio, including the DTN-X platform, for connection of these large centers by means of an architectural concept on the basis of FlexCoherent technology, it allows to transfer data from any points of the continent at a terabit speed when using one fiber optic cable.

For April 6, 2015 data transfer rate in the European network Facebook of 100 Gbps on the platform of technology of the coherent data transmission implemented in superchannels by capacity of 500 Gbps. The approach used in architecture of network will help to implement fast and simple scaling of network when capacity of superchannels increases up to 1.2 Tbit / page.
