Active Archive System - the system of active archiving (Active Archive System) – the system of object storages allowing the companies to save, store and use data arrays. The volume of storage of the raw data in one rack 4.7 petabyte (PB).

2015

On April 8, 2015 HGST announced the System of Active Archiving (Active Archive System) focused on the data processing centers operating in conditions of significant increase in information volumes at the shortage of free budgets and limited IT resources.

Active Archive System, 2015

The system of active archiving HGST Active Archive System – object-oriented storage system, completely ready to work, which will help data processing centers to turn into the system of active archiving of cloud scale. Active Archive System provides the unprecedented level of scalability, simplicity, physical and financial availability to the created and modified data needing long storage and a possibility of quick access to information in case of need.

The first this demonstration of the Active Archive System system will take place at the HIMSS exhibition on April 12-16 in Chicago and at the NAB exhibition on April 13-16 in Las Vegas.

The Active Archive System system is specially developed for satisfaction of customer needs which needs quick access to data bulks.

In composition the innovative developments of the hard drives HGST of the second generation of HelioSeal by 8TB capacity in combination with the integrated and optimized hardware are used, the scalable object-oriented storage system provides performance, efficiency and scalability necessary for data processing centers. The Active Archive System system is characterized by good energy efficiency (one W on TB).

Having applied similar system integration of HGST could increase by three-five times density and energy efficiency in comparison with other scalable solutions.

Active Archive System has technology of "simple scalability" Simplicity at Scale which allows to increase effectively storage volumes with a step to several petabyte.

The HGST Active Archive System system – easily connected and quickly increased, object storage system compatible to S3.

Active Archive System offers boundless scaling without expensive need for replication, and the open interface provides simplicity of integration and flexibility in process of development of requirements.

The system of active archiving HGST Active Archive System is available to the order.

2016: HGST Active Archive System is certified with Veritas NetBackup

In April, 2016 Western Digital and Veritas Technologies announced that the system of active archiving HGST Active Archive System is certified for use with the software on Veritas NetBackup data protection. The joint solution, thanks to the configuration and management, gives opportunities for scaling of volumes of storage and reduction of complexity of reservation by means of an economic private cloud. Corporate users can cut down expenses on infrastructure, including the high expenses connected with administration of the tape systems, their alternation, storage and data retrieval outside storage.

The solution for storage of objects of HGST Active Archive System of WDC company is compatible to Amazon S3, can scale the used volume from the 672nd terabyte (TB) to the 28th petabyte (PB). Using advantages of technology of a corporate class of HelioSeal at which hard drives are filled with helium, and completely optimized program and the hardware, a system provides density and total cost of ownership competing with traditional infrastructures of tape and cloud storage. Using the distributed coding with redundancy, she is capable to save in case of failure all data center, including a general view and data access from any location.
