Content

On May 22, 2015 it became known of creation of failsafe IT infrastructure by request of the Technical university UMMC. The project performed the system integrator Trinity company.

Project Tasks

Within new infrastructure the University develops different IT services, including provides broadcast of lectures and holding the interactive training actions for students and the staff of UMMC holding across all territory of the Russian Federation. The determination of the size of computing powers which is carried out at design considers the option of implementation of the VDI solution, exacting to resources, for virtualization of jobs of listeners and personnel of the university considered by the client. To provide the high performance and qualitative functionality of all services conforming to requirements of the University, the Trinity system integrator worked the project and implemented it in two stages.

Project Progress

The Trinity integrator developed for the Technical university UMMC cloud fault-tolerant a system based on the equipment of IBM and running the software of VMware VSphere.

At the first stage the basic landscape of a system consisting of computing components (IBM x3850 servers), storage systems (IBM Storwize v7000 Unified), SAN switches (IBM SAN24B-4), network switches (IBM G8124E) and tape library (IBM TS3310) is created.

For creation and management of a farm of virtual servers the software of VMware VSphere and vCenter which helps to integrate servers in a cluster is used.

For backup and data recovery the solution of the corporate level Symantec NetBackup is selected.

Servers and DWH by means of the SAN24B-4 switches are united in the general SAN network working at speed of 8 Gbps. The high fault tolerance of data networks is implemented using duplication of switches and links to them. Servers are switched on in a local network of the enterprise at a speed of 10 Gbps by means of the high-speed IBM G8124E Ethernet switches duplicated for ensuring fault tolerance.

At the second stage expansion of a landscape is executed by adding to infrastructure of the IBM x3850 server and duplicative DWH of IBM Storwize v7000. These components can be used during creation of the disaster-proof solution on the basis of reserve DPC of the Technical university UMMC. A part of computing, disk powers, necessary binding switches can move from the main DPC to reserve, connected with the basic by means of SAN and LAN networks.

Project Results

Using software of VMware Site Recovery Manager, the University can apply the automated plans of recovery of functionality and the services placed in virtual environment in case of emergency.

"The constructed infrastructure allows to perform both horizontal, and vertical scaling by adding and upgrade of components. The put "margin of safety" meets all requirements of the University as for the services which are available, planned to deployment, and for possible it is not predicted the arising requirements. The applied technologies of virtualization, an enterprise-level backup system, high processing speeds and data transmissions allow to minimize delays at the normal scheme of work and also provide the minimum idle time of services at emergence of any emergency situation which caused failure of a part of the equipment", - Andrey Latypov, the project manager from Trinity told.
"As a result of project implementation the Technical university UMMC has the advanced IT infrastructure allowing to solve problems on otkazo-and to disaster-proof placement of educational, accounting, computing and application services of the enterprise", - Anton Byzin, the head of department system and the equipment of Non-State Educational Institution DPO "Technical University UMMC" noted.
