The Federal Customs Service implemented DWH from IBM

On May 22, 2015 the Galard company announced implementation in IT infrastructure of FCS of the hardware solution of IBM on IBM Flash System 840 flash drives^[1].

Project Tasks

System implementation of data storage of this kind was required to the customer for acceleration of work of the information systems used for a customs clearance of goods and vehicles.

Staff of IT management of department considered different ways of performance improvement of the ICs. In their structure the project of the optimization of a program code DBMS Oracle used in work of the main applications. But because time and finance costs on implementation of such project are difficult predictable, the management made the decision on hardware acceleration of work of systems.

Project Progress

Along with installation, integration storage systems of IBM Flash System 840 are installed controllers of DWH of IBM SAN Volume Controller. Earlier FCS did not use the solution on the basis of flash drives.

IBM Flash System is generation of high-performance DWH on the basis of solid state drives. The storage system of a corporate class is intended for support of simultaneous operation of a large number of users and acceleration of a response of applications (to level less than 135 microsec).

In own DPC FCS held stress testing of the hardware solution IBM Flash System 840 and IBM SAN Volume Controller. It was succeeded to achieve performance improvement from three to eight times (depending on scenarios).

Project Results

The contractor executed supply of equipment in December, 2014.

Implementation is complete in February, 2015.
