The HDBaseT technology is an economic alternative of HDMI
HDBaseT is the technology of transfer of high-quality audio-videos of signals and data adapted both for house and for commercial application. The possibility of transfer of five types of the interface signals (an uncompressed digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power supply and also different control interfaces) on one standard CAT5e/6 cable on distance of 100 meters is the cornerstone of technology.
The main problem of HDMI as standard of transfer of high-quality AV of signals, restriction of cable length and distance of broadcasting (10-15 meters) is. Need of use of a large number of HDMI cables, powerful transmitters and repeaters for increase in a distance of transfer leads to significant increase in expenses on the HDMI organization of video of installations. For this reason of the solution on transfer of HDMI of video on CATx enjoy wide popularity. The set of the HDMI models of video of the extenders on CATx differing on functionality and characteristics is presented at the market. However, it is only partial solution. Extenders on CATx allow to transfer HDMI of video with the permission 1080p/24bit/60Hz to distance to 40 meters that not so strongly exceeds possible distance of cable transmission of HDMI. Transfer 3D HDMI of video with the help of standard CATx of video of extenders in most cases is not supported in general. These restrictions gave an impetus for development of new technology of transfer of a digital video, audio and data on CATx which received the name HDBaseT.
The HDBaseT technology supports transfer of television and computer videos of formats, including the standard, improved and highest image quality and also a 3D broadcast of video and a digital sound. The full HD/3D broadcast, 2K/4K of uncompressed video according to the schemes "point-to-point" and "point-several points" is possible. Cascading and topology "star" is supported. When cascading the distance of transfer can exceed 100 meters – can be carried out to eight additional segments of cable infrastructure (up to 100 meters everyone). The similar flexibility does HDBaseT technology ideal for application in commercial videos installations, such as Digital Signage (Digital Signage). Average speed of transfer of uncompressed video and a sound - up to 8 Gbps, and complete capacity - up to 10.2 Gbps, i.e. just the same as HDMI 1.4 and have only less, than at DiiVA (13.5 Gbps). At the same time using scaling increase in transmission rate up to 20 Gbps is possible that it is comparable with capacity of the DisplayPort 1.2 interface (21.6 Gbps).
Other huge plus of HDBaseT is the possibility of communication of different media of devices (computers, TVs, players, etc.) through 100Mb Ethernet connection. The technology supports a broad set of management signals, such as: Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) (remote control inclusion, shutdown of devices), RS232, USB and IR (control of the equipment by means of the remote control). Support of data transmission of management signals provides to the companies and integrators a possibility of selection of the best solution meeting the unique requirements of the enterprise.
The latest version of the HDBaseT 1.0 specification supports transfer of power supply (PoH). This function allows to transfer power supply from the DC socket and also data on one Ethernet to a cable, by analogy with Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology.
