Afanasyev Alexander Diomidovich - acting Rector of IrSTU

Biography

Alexander was born in 1952 in Irkutsk.

In 1976 he graduated from the Physics Department of Irkutsk State University (ISU).

He worked as a research intern at the Research Institute of Physics of St. Petersburg State University (then Leningrad State University).

From 1977 to 1980 he studied at the graduate school of the Research Institute of Physics of St. Petersburg State University. In 1980, the dissertation of the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences was defended.

From 1981 to 1990 he worked as an assistant in the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Physics Department of ISU, as a senior lecturer.

From 1990 to 1995 he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Physics Department of ISU.

In 1995 and until 2005, he served as head of the Department of General Physics of the Physics Faculty of ISU.

The title of professor was awarded in 2000.

In 2006, he moved to work at IrSTU as head of the Department of Quantum Physics and Nanotechnology.

From 2006 to 2010, he served as Vice-Rector of IrSTU for Science.

In 2011, he worked as Vice-Rector of IrSTU for International Affairs.

Since 2013, by order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, acting was appointed rector of IrSTU.

As of June 18, 2015, Alexander Diomidovich Afanasyev works as acting Rector of IrSTU.

Hobby

In his free time, he is fond of Eastern philosophy, is engaged in yoga and diving.

Family

Married. Two adult sons. Two grandchildren.
