GVTs Russian Railway implemented the SMS notifications system

On July 7, 2015 the Digital Design company announced project completion on development and deployment of an automated system of SMS informing in the Major Computer Center (MCC) of JSC "Russian Railways".

Project Tasks

Specialists of Digital Design were faced by a task - to provide the operational notification of users of IT systems about key events. Taking into account a number of factors the contractor made the decision on development of the universal SNS gateway.

The technological solution represents web service with functions of creation the Sms and control of delivery to the addressee. For July 7, 2015 a source of Sms - two systems operated in GVTs: The automated control system of uniform customer support department (ESPP ACS) for which the notification of heads about critical IT incidents, and ETRAN for which informing consignees on arrival of loads is organized is performed. It is going to connect other IT systems — sources of Sms.

"The SMS informing system has universal methods of connection of the new systems — sources of messages and events thanks to what there will be no need to develop the solution for their integration into the SMS gateway. It allows to reduce both temporary, and finance costs. Besides, now there is an opportunity to select SMS informing in a separate IT service (similar to service of e-mail) with a possibility of its reservation and also billing of the provided IT services" — Roman Lykov, the director of Major computer center — Russian Railway branch of JSC said.

Project Progress

Within the project connection to the cellular operator of MTS is executed, but system architecture allows connection to other mobile operators for reservation, creations of a possibility of parallel sending large volume of Sms. The SMS informing system is not capable to send requests to network of the enterprise while there is a possibility of a feedback: production ACS can send a request in the SMS informing system and receive the answer within the session set by them.

Project Results

"In the project progress special attention was paid to questions of information security. Placement of the SMS informing system in the demilitarized zone of the enterprise allowed the customer to avoid direct connection between the Internet gateway of the cellular operator and production ACS which are in the isolated network of the enterprise" — Ivan Sakharov, the project manager from Digital Design noted.

Since February, 2015 a system sends about 100 thousand Sms monthly.
