Mango Office for economy passed to PostgreSQL DBMS

On July 13, 2015 the cloud provider Mango Telecom announced completion of three years' migration from foreign license DBMS on Mango Telecom PostgreSQL Open Source^[1].

Former DBMS managed data on calls (CDR), clients, the used products, their versions, ensured functioning of billing. In an IT environment of the company she acted since June, 2009. The company began to leave her in 2012.

Project Progress

Replacement of the platform required transfer of 930 stored procedures and 45 thousand code lines. Process affected work of all divisions of provider therefore minimizing risks of idle time the customer base separated into several parts (on territorial sign and so forth), and transferred data groups, monitoring system performance, the company told. The general downtime of services during the entire period of time of works was 15 hours day at night.

The progressive tense functioning of an IT environment was executed on two platforms at the same time. The company did not announce building of the hardware for ensuring work of services during this time frame.

Project Results

For July 13, 2015 DBMS operating years services 36 thousand customers of the company, the record count exceeds 1 billion. In peak hours every second load of DBMS makes about 6 thousand transactions on record and 24 thousand on reading.

According to media, the company refused to announce details "the western permit system", nevertheless, records of the recruiting agencies about search of the company of the administrator are stored in search systems DBMS Oracle 11g (on the OS platform Linux).

Transition is executed by forces of the company, specialists made changes in PostgreSQL, added superstructures for adaptation to DBMS of the application software Mango.

The company states the reasons of replacement of DBMS need of reduction in cost of ownership of software and costs when scaling the business complete control over development of IT infrastructure, reduction of terms of the solution of technical issues without binding by the time of a response of technical support of software maker. In the statement of the company words and about decrease in financial risks, reduction of dependence of expenses on ruble exchange rate and price policy of vendors sound.

By calculations of the company, as a result of transition, in the long term four years, economy will reach $5 million.

For July 13, 2015 the company uses four database servers providing replication and load distribution taking into account the nature of requests (real time or not). Servers are installed in geographically distributed DPCs of level of reliability Tier 3. Until the end of 2015 the provider is going to double the number of database servers.
