Biography

In 1976 graduated from MGIMO and went to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR. Worked in Embassies of the USSR and Russia in Greece, at Cyprus.

Held executive positions in different departments the MFA of Russia. Was engaged in the relations with the countries of Europe, questions of settlement of the conflicts.

In 1997 — 2000  — the special representative of Russia concerning the Cyprian settlement. In 1999 — 2002  — the director of the department of the all-European cooperation the MFA of Russia. In 2000 — 2002 — the special representative of Russia across the Balkans. In 2002 — 2005  — the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Since 2005  — the Permanent representative of the Russian Federation at the EU (Brussels).

Knows English, Greek and French languages. It is mentioned by the state awards. He is married, has the son and the daughter.
