2015: Analytics of IBM in work of the port of Singapore

On August 17, 2015 IBM and Sea and port administration of Singapore announced cooperation (Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, MPA). Partners intend to develop through joint efforts the new technologies of analytics allowing to regulate the growing ship traffic traffic in one of the busiest ports in the world.

Within the partnership agreement signed for two years, IBM will create the single platform providing data integration in real time and complete idea of work of the information system MPA in order that port operators could coordinate work of the courts better. For example, on the basis of information on location of the ship and weather conditions the IBM platform will be able to warn about risk of collision of the marine transport.

Heads of IBM and MPA sign the cooperation agreement

It is going to use the system of forecasting of traffic flows of IBM Traffic Prediction Tool which will foresee arrival time of courts and to help to avoid jams near moorings.

The solutions IBM Incident Detection Module and IBM System G which will also be involved by MPA will allow to conduct attentive monitoring of cargo transportation and to reveal any violations (for example, illegal bunkering of courts) therefore it will be possible to increase safety of work of port and the ships coming to it.

"We are glad to cooperate with IBM within this important memorandum of understanding assuming use of new technologies and mechanisms of analytics of data which not only will improve sea transactions but also will support our initiatives in the field of creation of the "smart" port of new generation", – the head of MPA Andrew Tan said.

The port of Singapore is considered one of the most brisk in the world. Here at the same time about 1000 courts can come, and the number of vessel calls in a year is about 130 thousand. Thus, on average each two-three minutes to the port moors or one vessel departs from it.
