2015: The American aircraft passes to clouds of Microsoft and Amazon

On August 31, 2015 the Federal Aviation Administration of the USA (Federal Aviation Administration, FAA) announced intention to pass to cloud services of Amazon and Microsoft instead of being focused on own data centers.

FAA signed the agreement with Computer Sciences IT company which will help the partner with the translation of its data and systems in hybrid cloud space, the including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and "some other strategic business partners".

At the time of signing of the contract between Computer Sciences and FAA it was talked of the amount of $109 million. However the integrator specified that as the agreement is expected 10 years, the customer's expenses on implementation of cloud solutions as a result can reach $1 billion.

Will determine by joint efforts of FAA and Computer Sciences applications which in the best degree are suitable for transfer in a cloud. After completion of migration aviation department will be able quicker to follow industry standards and innovations due to purchase "information technologies in service quality that to purchase expensive buildings and the outdate equipment", reported in department.

"Transition of FAA from own data centers will increase efficiency and flexibility by outsourcing platforms and also will save time and money as exchange of all information considerably will become simpler" — it is said on the FAA website.[1]

What services and the FAA applications will become cloud, is not specified. It is known that the organization offers a broad spectrum of services to large airlines and private airlines. Most likely, the Federal Aviation Administration of the USA at first will transfer file hostings and a number of the tools used in department of processing of documentation to a cloud.
