Than Giprogazoochistka virtualized jobs

On September 23, 2015 it became known of the project of virtualization in JSC Giprogazoochistka company. As a technology platform for virtualization NVIDIA GRID and VMWare Horizon are used.

Project Tasks

For the choice of an optimal variant of technology stress testing of two solutions, by means of synthetic tests and in real work of design engineers is held. Process was broken into two stages:

• testing of the general working capacity
• testing using graphically saturated applications.

Based on tests the VMware Horizon virtualization platform is selected:

• practically all server framework of JSC Giprogazoochistka is virtualized, the software of VMware was used;
• at staff of system administrators there is a certified specialist of VMware;
• there was a possibility of use of "zero" clients (zero client).

Project Progress

The IT Department of the company independently implemented the project on virtualization of desktops (VDI). In a private cloud 100 employees of office and 60 design engineers work. Scaling up to 200 normal and 300 engineering jobs is planned.

At the heart of a system NVIDIA GRID and VMWare Horizon. The powerful centralized platform for work with graphically intensive applications is created. Remote access to 3D models from notebooks, tablets and smartphones is implemented.

Project Results

By means of use of NVIDIA GRID technology design engineers received freedom of remote access to the virtual machine from any place in the world. Processing of 2D/3D modeley technology objects of the oil and gas industry of any complexity directly from own tablet or the notebook is implemented. Acceleration of graphics on remote GPU provided to users of mobile devices the same opportunities, as well as powerful fixed graphic stations.

According to the results of the project the data storage security level increased in JSC Giprogazoochistka. All information is concentrated in corporate data center where the fault tolerance and access control are guaranteed. Unauthorized copying of the service information and carrying out for the protected perimeter are completely excluded now, even for the employees working from the house.

"In JSC Giprogazoochistka virtual infrastructure of desktops of design engineers is created: productive, flexible, available of any place in the world. Our internal IT department independently implemented the project based on NVIDIA GRID and VMWare Horizon. Increase in information security and decrease in operating expenses became important results", – Alexey Khudyakov, the project manager of implementation from IT department said.

"Purchases and service of expensive graphic stations are not necessary any more, transition on "zero" clients is begun, – Sergey Terentyev, the deputy CEO of JSC Giprogazoochistka told. – Already more than 60 design engineers work in a new system constantly, and each employee of the company has an opportunity to work from the house. Do not interfere with our specialists transport problems, the road does not take away forces and time. For a fine half of collective the possibility of combination of work with child care appeared. The loyalty of personnel grew, costs on training of new specialists were reduced. The solution VDI confirmed efficiency for business and fast payback".
