IBM will transfer to a cloud IT infrastructure of Etihad airline for $700 million

2015: The IT transaction between IBM and Etihad Airways

On October 13, 2015 the American corporation IBM and national airline Etihad Airways of the United Arab Emirates announced the conclusion of the IT transaction worth $700 million. Within cooperation "the blue giant" will be engaged in transfer of IT infrastructure of airline on cloud platforms for the purpose of quality improvement of service of his clients.

The signed Etihad and IBM the agreement is expected 10 years. On its conditions, the American IT giant will implement tools of the analysis of client data and the technology capable it is better to predict weather conditions for more effective work of mission control center in Abu Dhabi.

Besides, IBM will provide to the partner a broad spectrum of technology services and to service computing resources of Etihad, transferring them to a cloud. It concerns not only the Arab airline, but also its "daughters", including Alitalia and Air Berlin.

IBM and Etihad intend to construct data center which will become one of the first similar objects of the American corporation in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi. Capacities of own data processing center of Etihad and also its IT infrastructure, applications and means of ensuring of information security will be transferred to this DPC. Control of disaster recovery of data will be exercised in one of the European cloud data centers of IBM. Such approach will allow airline to scale more effectively IT resources and to manage them, providing at the same time the continuity of business processes.

According to the Chief information officer of Etihad Robert Webb, thanks to partnership with IBM the Arab company and its partners will receive the safe and reliable platform for operation and support of the software.

Terms of transaction assume transition about 100 IT specialists of Etihad in IBM where they will be able to improve the skills and examination in the development area of technological solutions.^[1]
