What became the platform for consolidation of infrastructure of the Swiss Mobiliar databases

On October 14, 2015 the Oracle corporation announced the choice by Swiss Mobiliar company for implementation as the strategic platform of management of Oracle databases of Database 12c. An implementation project objective - consolidation of IT infrastructure and performance improvement of applications.

Project Tasks

In 2014 the Swiss Mobiliar company rose before need of the choice when long-term merges and acquisitions, on the one hand, supported successful business of the company, with another - led to creation of difficult and bulky IT infrastructure. The company used different databases, mainframes and server technologies from different suppliers, an extensive range of legacy applications in the COBOL language. Such infrastructure lost a scaling option for support of long-term plans of business development. The company started search of the platform for management of databases, maintenance of strategy of the company and as a result selected Oracle Database 12c.

Project Progress

Swiss Mobiliar transformed, upgraded and consolidated infrastructure of databases using Oracle Database 12c, expanded functionality using the option Oracle Database In-Memory allowing to carry out data analysis in real time. The company literally in several minutes started use of advantages of Oracle Database In-Memory as it was not required to make changes to applications or to perform careful tuning.

To be convinced of advantages of high performance Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Database In-Memory, Swiss Mobiliar checked the concept, testing these solutions in three different scenarios typical for the operating transactions of the company. In the first scenario information input about the new client in the data warehouse about sales was modelled, the second scenario included testing Oracle Database In-Memory using the developed storage of managerial data, and in the third scenario functioning of the risk management system used by the company Swiss Mobiliar within 20 years was checked on Oracle Database In-Memory. In all three scenarios of technology Oracle exceeded former architecture of databases Swiss Mobiliar, and in the third scenario, according to information Oracle - performance increased by 200 times.

Project Results

The Swiss Mobiliar application for risk management by the first is translated to Oracle Database In-Memory. In plans of the company on the next stage, based on the got experience - to activate the option Oracle Database In-Memory for other applications.
