DIVArchive

Product
Developers: Front Porch Digital
Last Release Date: 2014/12/12
Branches: Media, TV and broadcasting
Technology: Cybersecurity - Backup and data storage,  Data processing centers are technologies for DPC

DIVArchive is the distributed multi-purpose archive.

The product represents a software package with the patented open architecture allowing to create systems with almost unlimited opportunities regarding expansion both on the volume of the stored material, and on the required bandwidth[1].

The DIVArchive systems can be scaled from small, constructed on disk arrays, to large, equipped with different storage systems that allows to receive the solution satisfying to any requests.

DIVArchive (2014)

The materials which are stored under control of DIVArchve are available to different applications and devices in the local and remote modes. At the same time a system itself, it is transparent for the user and applications, provides compatibility of formats and data movement between different storage devices. DIVArchive has potential for expansion (the modular architecture allows to increase gradually capacities according to the increasing needs of the user), provides reliability and resistance to any failures (by means of use of RAIDs, the reserved power sources and the protected database), guaranteeing safety of information in any situations. It is simple in service (service works can be carried out on the working complex, configuring and monitoring are executed on network from any computer) and provides a full support of Russian and other East European languages.

The scheme of interaction in the DIVArchive (2013) system

DIVArchive is a modular hardware and software system which elements can function on one server, and are set on different servers, forming the computer system. Interaction between system modules happens by means of TCP/IP network. As a part of the DIVArchive complex modules can operate:

  • DIVArchive Manager is the central node of a system providing task management, request processing to archive, selection of resources for each task and database maintenance of objects;
  • DIVArchive Actor is an executive node. Works under control of DIVArchive Manager and carries out tasks of data movement, archiving, recovery and so forth. The new modules Actor for ensuring required capacities can be added to a system;
  • DIVArchive Actor/Transcoder — the executive Actor node with opportunities of conversion (transcoding) of formats in the course of data movement. Conversion can be both with preserving of quality, and with conversion to lower resolution (Low Resolution Video, LRV) for ensuring viewing at normal workstations;
  • DIVAdirector is the application allowing to perform a set of useful functions on content management via the intuitive web interface in the multi-user mode, complementing the DIVArchive system with feature set full MOTHERS systems.

On the DIVAdirector platform the system of separation on user rights and the access levels is implemented. The module allows to browse metadata of clips with a possibility of fine tuning of model of metadata (sets of fields) under each specific objective. DIVAdirector gives opportunities of watching all clips in low resolution and allows to perform exact (to a frame) installation with the subsequent formation of a decision list of EDL and export of the clip. It also gives the chance to manage functions partial (on the set time code) extraction of video from archive with immediate conversion to formats of the majority of the video servers presented at the market and also to perform search, to save the history of search and to execute some other transactions.

A system provides a possibility of consolidation of several archives (perhaps, being at considerable distance from each other) in a single network, helping to create the huge, distributed CSM system. The DIVAnet application allows to integrate several DIVArchive complexes thanks to what it is possible or to create a system with a huge security margin (with automatic redistribution of load of a reserve complex in case of emergency situations), or to provide steady controlled exchange of material with subsidiary companies or departments in the different cities.

For the organization of archive of initial level, the Front Porch Digital company developed the full-function DIVAworks system for small TV companies. It represents the system of a full stroke consisting of the server with the preset software of DIVArchive, the disk array with a capacity of 2 TB and tape (LTO-3 format) library on 10 cartridges with a possibility of accumulation of capacity. This system allows to organize in the shortest possible time for small TV company the full-fledged archive having all necessary feature set which can be upgraded afterwards to higher level.
