NodeOS is the operating system created on the basis of a core Linux and JavaScript-applications started on the Node.js server.

The NodeOS operating system is created in Spain and won national tender of projects of the open source (9th against National Free Software Championship).

On November 23, 2015 the community of OS developers announced the planned release of the first release 1.0[1].

Authors of NodeOS position a product as: "the lightweight operating system which is completely constructed on JavaScript and managed by npm".

Submission of NodeOS (2014) OS

From GNU/Linux in NodeOS the core on which the performed environment for JavaScript-applications of node.js and its package manager by default of npm (Node Package manager) is launched is used only actually. For November 23, 2015 in npm base more than 200 thousand packets, and founders of NodeOS designate by the purpose of the OS "provide the minimum, leaving all the rest for npm". Loading of NodeOS is organized so that initramfs causes a cycle in node.js (Read-Eval-Print-Loop, REPL) which process receives PID 1 and mounts file systems / dev and / proc.

Images of NodeOS for a broad spectrum of applications prepare: desktop computers, compact devices (Raspberry Pi) and servers, cloud providers, virtual machines, PaaS-providers and providers of containers.

The last releases of NodeOS are available on GitHub in the form of 32-and 64-bit images to the PC, QEMU and vagga. On Docker Hub only outdated images of OS are still provided (it is offered to collect from source codes).

The source code OS extends on the terms of the free license MIT and is available on GitHub.
