IBM Object Storage is a cloud service for creation in an interactive mode of storages of objects and connections them to applications. It is focused on developers.
On October 20, 2015 Big Blue announced start of a cloud service[1].
Service provides to application developers the scalable platform with support of own API. She allows to store and request unstructured data, to develop applications on the basis of these data. Object Storage is available on Bluemix in the beta and gives the chance to developers of access to such data from third-party applications.
Using IBM Object Storage developers will be able quicker, more simply and more safely to get access to the growing volumes of unstructured data including images, documents and video files, to store them.
In the aspiration to help with search of problem solving of collecting, storage and obtaining intellectual value from quickly growing volumes of unstructured data, IBM created a number of the technologies including IBM Object Storage and practices of Cleversafe acquired company.
Cleversafe technologies help the companies to store considerable amounts of data, to manage them in scales of the organization, helping to extend, be connected to large-scale data warehouses, backup copies, archives and so forth.
Having defined OpenStack Object Storage (Swift) of API as a method of the addressing data on the basis of API, and OpenStack Identity (Keystone) as an identification method, the IBM Object Storage service offers developers tools:
- creating applications and their binding to object files, both in limits, and outside Bluemix;
- management of identification and authentication for protection against unauthorized access to object-oriented data;
- user control panel;
- viewing objects, possibility of unloading and loading of files by means of "drag-and-drop";
- OpenStack Swift API and a set of the means for development (SDK) providing access to storage of objects;
- office keys for access to Object Storage and work with objects from third-party applications and services;
- isolation of each single storage on Bluemix for security.
The beta will support English as the main and nine additional, including:
- French,
- German,
- Spanish,
- Brazilian
- Portuguese,
- Italian,
- Japanese,
- simplified Chinese,
- traditional Chinese
- Korean.
