Technoserv constructed unique multimedia laboratory for Skoltech


In February, 2016 the Technoserv company announced project completion on creation of multimedia laboratory of joint work and group training – platforms of concurrent engineering (Concurrent Engineering Design Facility, CEDF) for the Skolkovo institute of science and technology (Skoltech).

Within the project Technoserv executed design of technical solutions, installation and a commissioning of the hardware and software, installation and start of the applied systems and also will provide user training and operational personnel of institute.

Technology of concurrent engineering (Concurrent Engineering Design, CED) – a design method and product developments which essence is that different phases of works are completed at the same time, but it is not consecutive, accelerating a development cycle. CED is intended for the solution of difficult engineering tasks when designing products in the innovation industries requiring involvement of specialists of different knowledge domains. The main conditions of successful work on CED are free communication between all participants, visualization of the ideas and results of joint work and also parallel operation. Sales of products on this methodology requires the specialized platform – CEDF, the project on which development for Skoltech executed Technoserv.

The Skolkovo institute of science and technologies – a non-state educational research institute. The project of multimedia laboratory provided implementation of all-construction, technological and planning solutions. According to the technical specifications developed by specialists Skoltech, the platform CEDF includes multifunction multimedia laboratory for joint simultaneous operation to 40 people, two small negotiation on 10-12 people and also service premises. The additional requirement is the possibility of use of laboratory in the training process. Under the leadership of professor Alessandro Golcar in laboratory researches on the theory of concurrent engineering and also educational programs for students of Skoltech and short professional courses are conducted. In spite of the fact that the laboratory is placed in the space Center of Skoltech, it is open for work and interaction with all research Centers of Skoltech and other organizations.

specialists of Technoserv the platform is based on the modern hi-tech equipment, the software of world leading manufacturers, Cisco, Christie, Crestron, Gefen, Jupiter and allows:
  • use in learning process and works the equipment integrated into the general management system (including displays, sources of video signals, video conference, a sound hardware, light, the moving apart curtain and window blinds) and also to control it through the simple and evident control interface implemented on graphic touch-panels or tablets;
  • conduct parallel researches using interactive development tools on mobile video walls with multi-touch technology;
  • hold seminars, lectures, conferences, the presentations in groups from 25 to 40 people in laboratory, and till 10-12 people in each of small negotiation;
  • present graphic, including 3D, developments at the same time to all participants of laboratory on the videowall and also to bring information to video walls from any workplace (including on a wireless network and from mobile devices);
  • carry out multipoint video conferences (to 4 points), sessions of distance learning and remote joint work from laboratory and everyone small negotiation;
  • use a free design of placement of jobs in laboratory with preserving of all switching opportunities;
  • hold internal joint meetings at the same time between all premises using the sound reinforcement system and the congress of a system, the Intercom function and a video conferencing.
