Croc installed wind-driven generators for Megafon

Customers: MegaFon

Moscow; Telecommunications and Communications

Contractors: Croc
Product: Complex projects of creation of the engineering systems

Project date: 2015/03  - 1970/09

In the spring of 2016 the MegaFon company set alternative power complexes on the basis of wind power generation on two base stations in Murmansk region. Thus, subscribers in the localities which are located far from transmission lines (power transmission line) are provided with uninterrupted communication. The coefficient of autonomy of base stations from traditional sources of electricity makes 80-95%, and the number of departures for service decreased at 10-12 times. All works on design, installation and a commissioning of systems are executed by specialists of CROC.

The base stations (BS) are in geographically remote regions of the country at a great distance from the power transmission line in this connection connection of the centralized power supply is economically not reasonable. Power failure, the termination of communication and a noise on the line — the frequent phenomena in these parts. Current situation forces cellular operators to use the expensive diesel generator sets (DGS) in service, and regular departures of the technician for their refueling become complicated total absence of road infrastructure.

The set of all factors forced the operator to look for new opportunities of the solution and to think of installation of alternative power sources on BS. The solution proposed by CROC was tested in Murmansk region and the Volga region within a pilot project. Its results allowed specialists of CROC to define an optimal variant of execution, and to the customer to be convinced of advantage of implementation. Both generating installations are redeemed by MegaFon and are used now.

"In case of de-energization of one base station in the remote region of Murmansk region more than 2000 subscribers were left without communication for indefinite time. Use of alternative energy sources is effective, reliable and also allows us to minimize operating costs of DGU. We had an opportunity to be convinced of it within two years of successful operation of the pilot station mounted by CROC" — Mikhail Shaporov, the chief power engineer of operation of network of Northwest branch PJSC MegaFon comments.

For ensuring the most effective work of a power complex specialists of CROC held preliminary testings, processed local meteodata, calculated necessary capacities of autonomous sources, picked up the equipment and an installation site with the best indicators of wind speed. As a result, the alternative power complexes placed in different localities have a different configuration owing to geographical features, but solve the same problems.

Alternative power complexes consist of wind generators, rechargeable batteries accumulating energy, devices of ambient cooling and the electropanel board equipment. A system is automated, base stations work in a standalone mode. Transition to the manual mode thanks to the additional systems of remote monitoring and management is as necessary possible.

"The solution developed by specialists of CROC shows the efficiency daily. Results suit the customer, and we are going to continue cooperation. The renewable power develops in Russia gradually, we hope that our examination promotes acceleration of this process" — Alexander Shirokov, the director of the department of intellectual buildings of CROC company says.
