2016: Announcement of mobile application
At the end of March, 2016 the BMW Group carmaker announced the mobile application of BMW Connected working in Microsoft Azure cloud. Cooperation of the German and American companies deserves attention as the first was "primary client" of Amazon Web Services, reports the The Wall Street Journal edition.
The BMW Connected application provided at the Microsoft Build 2016 conference (on March 30 – on April 1; San Francisco, the USA), is positioned by developers as the personal mobile assistant. He takes data on location of the made appointment from an outlook calendar and prompts to the user when it is necessary to leave to be in time in time taking into account a situation on roads. Data from the mobile device are synchronized with the automobile on-board computer which will automatically start navigation to the selected destination.
Besides, the program, using navigation in the mobile device, will help to find the destinations set in the navigation system when the car owner got out of the car and decided to reach on foot or to reach on public transport and also will show a way back to the parked car.
At last, BMW Connected allows to manage remotely by means of the smartphone or the tablet the central castle, to include/switch off headlights, to give a sound signal a horn and to obtain information on accumulator charging level (for the hybrid BMW models).
The application is connected to a cloud platform of Azure and uses other solutions of Microsoft, including the database management system, analytical instruments and services of machine learning.
Azure offers tool kit for creation of this architecture and allows us to scale it under our requirements — the vice president for the digital products BMW Thom Brenner reported. |
Before cooperation with Microsoft the BMW company entirely used cloud solutions of Amazon. The online retailer hopes to save partnership with the European auto giant.
It should be noted that BMW not the first car maker who selected Azure for start of the automobile applications. Earlier the same most was made by the companies Ford Toyota, Volvo and Nissan.
As of April 1, 2016 the BMW Connected application is available only to IOS-DEVICES. The version for Android will appear is later.[1]
