The system operator upgraded supervisory control IT infrastructure in ten RDU

Customers: SO UES - System operator Edinoy power systems

Product: Projects of creation of complex IT infrastructure

Project date: 2015/03  - 2016/02

In April, 2016 in ten Branches of JSC "SO UES" the Regional Dispatching Offices (RDO) the local computer systems (LCS) which considerably increased reliability of work of technology IT infrastructure of supervisory control in power supply systems of thirteen territorial subjects of the Russian Federation are put into commercial operation.

Local computer systems ensure functioning of the majority of the infrastructure and technology management information systems (MIS) in process of management of the electrical power modes. LVK are important components of IT infrastructure of the dispatching centers of regional power supply systems. Equipment of the dispatching centers local computer systems is provided by the Policy of information technology development of JSC SO UES accepted in 2014 until 2018.

Prior to implementation of an investment program of JSC SO UES on creation of LVK the vast majority of RDU used the "classical" scheme of IT infrastructure of supervisory control at which each IUS consisted of a dedicated server (or a cluster as a part of 2–3 servers) and storage systems. Similar approach provided reservation of IT systems, but significantly limited scaling and required considerably the bigger volume of computing resources.

By May, 2016 LVK are implemented in 33 regional dispatching centers of the System operator from 51 existing. From them in April complexes are admitted to ten RDU in commercial operation: Transbaikal, Astrakhan, Vladimir, Karelian, Voronezh, Arkhangelsk, Kostroma, Ryazan, Volgograd and Leningrad, – thirteen territorial subjects of the Russian Federation exercising control of power supply systems. In the course of migration of IUS from physical servers on the LVK virtual platform the continuity of supervisory control of power supply systems is provided.

All LVK are equipped with highly reliable server computing systems, the equipment of the storage area network and storage systems. The technologies of virtualization implemented in LVK, allow to optimize use of computing resources and to lower IT infrastructure housekeeping overheads. Besides, applied tasks are performed independently of each other in the isolated environments that in addition increases reliability of their work and reduces unplanned idle times of the management information systems.

During 2016 implementation of LVK is going to be completed still in 15 RDU. Implementation of Policy of information technology development of the System operator will allow to take more than one thousand outdated servers out of service and to lower housekeeping overheads of the equipment and electricity consumption and also to reduce costs for upgrade of IT infrastructure in the future.
