Biography

Johan Vanderplaetse graduated with honors from the Law Faculty of Ghent University and the Faculty of European Law of the European College in Bruges, studied Russian at the A.S. Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language in Moscow. He also speaks Dutch, English, German and French.

1996-1998: Work at the EBRD in Kazakhstan

Johan Vanderplaetse worked in the investment fund of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Kazakhstan from 1996 to 1998.

1999: From Alcatel lawyer to head of representative office in Russia and CIS

Johan Vanderplaetse began his career in Russia at Alcatel, going from a lawyer to the head of the company in Russia, the CIS, Central and Southern Europe.

2009: Vice President of Emerson Process Management in CIS and Turkey

On October 1, 2009, Johan Vanderplaetse took office as vice president of Emerson Process Management in the CIS and Turkey. Under his leadership, Emerson Process Management achieved significant business growth in the region, and also opened a new large plant in Chelyabinsk for the production of equipment for automation of technological processes of industrial enterprises.

2016: Head of Schneider Electric in Russia and CIS

On June 1, 2016, the French engineering giant Schneider Electric announced the appointment of Johan Vanderplaetse as president of the representative office in Russia and the CIS. The former head of this office, Jean-Louis Stasi, who held the post for six years, will continue to work at the company's headquarters in the role of senior vice president of innovation and launch of new products.

As of June 2016, Johan Vanderplaetse is the president of the Russian-Belgian business club, vice president of the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Russia and honorary professor of several Russian universities.

2021: Resignation from the presidency of Schneider Electric in Russia and the CIS

On December 14, 2021, Schneider Electric announced to TAdviser the appointment of Alexei Kashaev as president of Schneider Electric in Russia and the CIS, who will replace Johan Vanderplaetse. More details here.
