Serial production of routers based on KasperskyOS began

In November, 2016 Evgeny Kaspersky announced in the official blog the beginning of serial production of the first device on own operating system.

The network router which the Kraftway company began to release is the protected L3 level switch on the operating system developed by Kaspersky Lab – KasperskyOS.

Our OS was very suitable for similar projects where the small, optimized and safe platform is necessary, – Evgeny Kaspersky says.

The router based on KasperskyOS provides confidentiality of traffic

In the router the operating system of Kaspersky is integrated into the module of management, explain in the company. In Kaspersky Lab thought of creation of own OS 14 years ago. According to the top manager, KasperskyOS has several features. First, micronuclear architecture that allows under specific requirements to collect "from cubes" different modifications of a system. Secondly, the built-in system of security controlling behavior of applications and modules of the operating system. "To hack this platform it is necessary to break the cryptographic signature that before an era of quantum computers is very expensive occupation", – Evgeny Kaspersky notes. And, thirdly, OS is made from scratch and ground on security.

According to him, cyberthreat for critical infrastructure, a telecom and the other vital systems any more not a fantasy. He cites as an example DDoS attack on Dyn DNS provider, "filled up" for a while the websites of Amazon and Twitter. It was organized by a botnet which infected "smart" devices: in particular, surveillance cameras and home routers. "By the way, the attack issued magnificent 1.2 terabits per second — the largest DDoS in the history, – he specifies. – And recent DDoS on the Russian banks, appears, too was using IoT".

According to the CEO of Kaspersky Lab, based on OS it is possible to create the safe systems of industrial automation steady against cracking and also to create the protected embedded-devices, including similar routers and "things of the Internet" (IoT).

Protect both IoT, and, of course, critical infrastructure (the industry, transport, a telecom, etc.) from IT threats it is necessary. But it is better to construct them from the very beginning so that as fight, and it was impossible to crack them. It is also the fundamental purpose of our big project, – Evgeny Kaspersky says.

The output of Kraftway routers based on KasperskyOS

In August, 2016 it became known that Kraftway will become the first user of the Kaspersky Lab operating system. The Russian producer of the IT equipment will install KasperskyOS in the routers. About it Vedomosti were told in the companies.

According to the representative of Kaspersky Lab Maria Shirokova, the company developed the OS from scratch, and the information security and complete confidentiality of traffic became key properties of a product.

Kraftway will install the first KasperskyOS in the equipment

The routers, most popular in Russia, Cisco also Huawei work based on own OS of these producers — according to IOS and VRP, the newspaper notes.

Kraftway router cost under control of KasperskyOS will be from 100 to 200 thousand rubles depending on a configuration that is comparable to the price of similar solutions of Cisco, the senior vice president of Kraftway Renat Yusupov says. He reported that by August 17, 2016 the company released the first batch from 1 thousand devices and offers them for testing to different state agencies which Yusupov sees the main consumers of the new equipment. Future demand Yusupov estimates at several thousands of devices monthly.

The representative of association of producers of the electronic equipment and devices polled by the edition estimates a deposit of cost of KasperskyOS to the Kraftway router price to 20-30%. Thus, one device can cost Kraftway in the amount from 20 to 60 thousand rubles. The producer does not disclose product cost.

Kaspersky Lab notes that KasperskyOS will not fight against mass OS for computers and servers as the company is guided by those segments where security is primary: automated process control systems, telecommunication equipment, medical devices and Internet of Things.^[1]
