The updated line of the Russian DEPO Storm servers increases efficiency of a server framework of the enterprise

Any IT infrastructure is similar to a live organism: it is in permanent process of growth and development. On the one hand, infrastructure components are updated and improved, new technologies of information processing, the new applied systems and software constantly appear. On the other hand, business requests to IT department regarding quality and a variety of the provided IT services grow. For increase in efficiency of IT service and reducing costs for service of IT infrastructure, especially relevant is an issue of standardization of the used equipment.

Content

Modern technologies allow to increase efficiency of use of the server park thanks to bigger universality of servers and simplicity of their scaling. Thanks to technologies of server virtualization and cloud management (orchestration) dynamic software-defined infrastructures based on the standardized server hardware for the solution of the most various tasks are created.

Making use of extensive experience of development of server solutions, the DEPO Computers company updates a line of the DEPO Storm servers and offers the new multifunction rack servers with high extent of standardization optimized for creation of a flexible scalable server framework of an enterprise scale.

The platform for new servers

At the heart of new servers — motherboards of own development based on chips of system logic of Intel® C612 with support of two latest Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 V4 processors. Also for new servers two body 1 and 2 U high are developed for installation in a server rack. A wide choice of options of a complete set helps to pick up an individual configuration of the server, the most precisely corresponding to the customer's tasks.

New servers were presented at the Import substitution-2016 exhibition

Motherboards and body of new servers are completely ready to embedding of the Russian hardware systems of protection and information management. In particular, new servers are compatible to the information security facility, the developed Russian companies OKB SAPR, Code of Security, Confidant, etc.

Servers can be completed with the Russian modules of a trusted boot, management tools access, the electromechanical lock and sensor of opening of the body. Besides, servers can be completed with the module of monitoring of operating conditions and the module of control of technical condition and maintenance of the server. The modules developed in DEPO Computers research center allow to organize control of functioning of servers and to reduce the probability of the failures caused by violation of operating conditions of the server hardware.

Servers contain standard connectors for installation of expansion cards:

  • 2 x PCIe v3.0 x16;
  • 3 x PCIe v3.0 x8;
  • mini PCIe v2.0.

Besides, one additional connector of standard M.2 (NGFF) intended for expansion cards in a form factor of the next generation is installed in the body of 2 U in size.

For new servers in DEPO Computers it is developed own by software of the centralized remote control and monitoring of DEPO System Manager which supports standard protocols and control interfaces. In software unique features of integration with hardware modules of monitoring of operating conditions and control of technical condition of DEPO are also implemented.

The new line contains several models of servers which differ in opportunities of a disk subsystem and LAN controllers. Depending on a task it is possible to install from 2 to 26 hardware-assisted hard drives of disk arrays in the server and hot swap of disks. Besides, the possibility of installation of solid-state SSD drives for OS is provided.

Advantages of technologies of Intel

In servers the newest generation of the server multi-core processors Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v4 which provide an optimal combination of performance and cost is used. New processors are issued on 14-nanometer technology, they contain bigger number of cores, more high-speed controller of RAM and include expanded support of technologies of virtualization. For the first time in Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v4 processors absolutely new Intel® Resource Director Technology technology (Intel® RDT) for monitoring and management of the distributed system resources at the level of the operating system and virtual machines debuted. In addition, in new processors expanded function of hardware control of energy consumption, Intel® Processor Trace technology for program debugging using trace of accomplishment of commands, new and enhanced capabilities of quality improvement of service of Quality-of-Service (CMT, CAT, MBM), virtualization and other technologies for decrease in delays and energy consumption is also implemented.

The architecture of a subsystem of memory provides four channels on one connector of the processor and supports installation of two modules of memory on one channel. Installation of 16 modules of memory of the DDR4 2400/2133 RDIMM/LRDIMM standard is provided in servers of 2 U in size:

  • up to 128 GB of RDIMM SRx4 (peer-to-peer modules of memory);
  • up to 512 GB of RDIMM DRx4 (two-rank modules of memory);
  • up to 1024 GB of LRDIMM QRx4 (four-rank modules of memory);
  • up to 2048 GB of LRDIMM 3DS 8Rx4 (eight-rank modules of memory with three-dimensional stacking).

The possibility of installation of 12 modules of memory is provided in servers of 1 U in size.

For work with a local computer network the following network controllers of Intel company are installed: two ports 10 GbE (10GBase-T, PCIe v2.1, x8), two ports GbE and one selected port for remote control (BMC management port).

Purpose of new servers

New servers of a line DEPO Storm are intended for creation of a modern server framework in the medium-sized and large companies. With their help it is possible to implement any scenarios of the organization of corporate infrastructure. The standardized servers allow to construct flexible, easily scalable infrastructure. Thanks to the selected technologies such infrastructure has high fault tolerance and requires the minimum housekeeping overheads.

Also new servers can be used in the SMB-companies if they have an infrastructure for placement of rack servers. The DEPO Computers company offers special compact server cabinets for a server framework in normal office spaces.

By production of servers in DEPO Computers company the multi-layer system of quality control is implemented. All components before revenues to a production line undergo strict control. Besides, each server after completion of production passes test and setup by engineers of the company and only after that is transferred to the customer.

Feature of new servers is wide use of the Russian technologies. Design documentation on the motherboard and microprogram providing are developed in DEPO Computers. Production, setup and installation of the necessary software are carried out on the production site of the company in Krasnogorsk of the Moscow region.

Besides, in new servers special attention is paid to questions of data protection and security. The platform of servers at a development stage is prepared for embedding of the Russian systems of protection and information management. Now check of new servers on lack of not declared opportunities is complete and certification is carried out to FSTEC on the 4th NDV level. It will allow to use new servers in information systems where special requirements to confidentiality and data protection are imposed.
