The House Money company - one of the largest players in the Russian microfinancial market - studies the project of replacement of Microsoft SQL DBMS by open PostgreSQL DBMS. The director of information technology House Money Daniil Mizun told about it at the TAdviser Banks IT Day conference in September, 2016.
According to him, the possibility of transfer to new DBMS of a single back office system is discussed. More than 500 employees "House money", including, based in regions work with it.
Mizun noted that the company considered options of different DBMS an alternative to a product of Microsoft, and as the most optimal for herself selected PostgreSQL. This system moved ahead in terms of performance and reliability lately, the Chief information officer counts "House money". At the same time, determinancy what PostgreSQL distribution kit will be used while is not present.
The company, most likely, by own efforts will implement the project: in the state "House money" there are own developers, Mizun says.
Due to transition to open DBMS financial institution expects to optimize costs for licenses. The chief information officer noted that exact economic effect which will be gained by the company due to migration on PostgreSQL was not estimated yet: "If to look at the cost of licenses, to consider the number of processors, dollar exchange rate and some other factors, economy will turn out essential", - Daniil Mizun considers.
Earlier with the same purpose "House money" was transferred by jobs of call center agents from software of Microsoft to Linux, Mizun told. In total, passed about 250 jobs to the open operating system. Microsoft OS continues to be used in call center, but on absolutely small amount of computers – about ten. In plans "House money" - to transfer from Microsoft on Linux also regional network of employees.
