"The alphabet of Taste" and Sberbank started the project of biometric payment confirmation of services of the retailer

On September 27, 2016 the press service of Sberbank announced the beginning of the joint project with supermarkets of Alphabet of Taste network.
Project Results
The companies implemented a pilot project using technology of biometric authentication which essence in payment of products of outlet by means of technology of scanning of papillary lines of owners of plastic cards of Sberbank.
Write-off of funds from a card customer account is initiated by contact of a finger of the biometric scanner on the POS terminal. Before it it is necessary to undergo registration procedure at cash desk of supermarket and to tie via the POS terminal prints of two fingers to the bank card of payment systems VISA or MasterCard.
After connection of service and a binding of the bank card the technology allows to pay purchases using fingerprints without presentation of the bank card. The traditional payment method by means of the card and the PIN code remains available.
As project participants reported, they do not store biometric data of clients — after scanning data will be transformed to a unique set of number codes. The identifier which in the isolated database becomes attached to the bank card shown at registration is appropriated to each code.
For September 27, 2016 the technology works in supermarket to the address Moscow, Nakhimovsky Avenue, 61. Sberbank provided all cash desks of shop with the corresponding POS terminals.
Our project with Alphabet of Taste – the first biometric project in the Russian retail. Sberbank is going to continue implementation of biometric payment methods in trade acquiring. The convenience of biometrics is that for carrying out payment it is not necessary to show the bank card and to enter the PIN code. The biometrics is an opportunity not to carry with itself neither the bank card, nor especially cash. |
