2016: ABB is connected to a cloud of Microsoft

At the beginning of October, 2016 the electrotechnical giant ABB and the software maker of Microsoft announced the partnership assuming creation in the industry of new digital technologies using cloud computing.

Within cooperation ABB will connect the integrated industrial platform to Azure cloud, having taken advantage of services Azure IoT Suite, Cortana Intelligence Suite, etc. The cloud of Microsoft will help to improve IT infrastructure of ABB in which more than 70 million devices and over 70 thousand numerical control systems are integrated. As of October, 2016 the number of staff of ABB totals 135 thousand people worldwide, including 26 thousand employees in the USA.

ABB and Microsoft intend to create one of the world's largest industrial cloud platforms

Expansion of opportunities of the companies in such areas as robotics, shipbuilding and ports, electric transport and renewable energy sources became a main objective of joint work of Microsoft and ABB. According to the head of ABB Ulrich Spiesshofer, having integrated, the companies will create "one of the world's largest industrial cloud platforms".

Together with ABB we will offer industrial clients both digital technologies, and a cloud platform which will allow each person, a command or a business system to select the new ideas within the organization and to make fast decisions for receiving new opportunities and sources of growth — the CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella noted.

ABB and Microsoft promise to make every effort for development of digital solutions which will improve performance of customers, having increased working capacity time, speed of work and level of income.

It should be noted that Microsoft and ABB already have experience of cooperation. In October, 2015 the companies integrated in creation of the new platform for fast charging of electric vehicles.
