VNIIAES will carry out the analysis of a status of protection of an APCS of all operating NPPs against cyberthreats

The All-Russian Research Institute on operation of nuclear power stations (JSC VNIIAES) started in the fall of 2016 solution of the problem of protection against cyberthreats of industrial control systems (APCS) of the operating NPPs. Such task for institute was set by JSC Rosenergoatom Concern.

Implementation of the concept is connected, first of all, with widespread introduction around the world of digital technologies. In this regard the problem of ensuring cyber security of any enterprise becomes more significant. In particular it concerns ensuring safe operation of the objects of nuclear power requiring special attention to issues of steady functioning. At accomplishment of an assigned task VNIIAES will interact with other enterprises of nuclear sector, including, with JSC Atomtekhenergo, JSC NIKIET and JSC RASU.

Development of the new concept of ensuring cyber security of an APCS of the NPP will become the first step, taking into account specifics of the organization of management of technology processes on nuclear power plants.

Until the end of 2016 and in the 1st half of 2017 the analysis of a status of protection of an APCS of all operating NPPs against cyberthreats will be carried out. It will allow to create new approaches to ensuring cyber security of the NPP in general and in the shortest possible time to equip nuclear power plants with the additional systems and means of protecting, having increased the level of cyber security of the operating NPPs taking into account the modern and predicted threats.

JSC VNIIAES is affiliated dependent enterprise of Rosenergoatom Concern and performs functions of the Research supervisor on all problems of operation of nuclear power plants of Russia. The main activities of VNIIAES is reliability augmentation, security and efficiency of work of nuclear power plants with VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600, EGP-6 reactors and also execution of works for the under construction and again designed NPPs.
