On November 28, 2016 Royal Philips company, the Makkuori University in Sydney (Australia) and the medical center of Emory in Atlanta (USA) announced start of the program of remote monitoring in intensive care units and resuscitation.
Project Tasks
Partners expect that in a project deliverable specialists from Australia by means of the IT system of Philips eICU will have an opportunity in real time to watch patients on other continent, to appoint necessary procedures far off at emergence of complications. Constant control of the vital indicators and the instant notification of doctors about the slightest changes in a status of patients will promote improvement of results of treatment.
Development of specialists of the center of Emory and the center of medical sciences at the Makkuori University in Sydney will have an opportunity to work jointly, being at distance of 15 thousand km. from each other. Such approach will mean transition to a system of the integrated medical care of the future. Implementation of similar models of work on all Australia is planned, in other countries[1].
The time difference will allow specialists to help from Sydney to colleagues in intensive care units and resuscitation in Atlanta when in the territory of the USA night. The system of remote monitoring Philips eICU will provide clinical physicians from Australia with continuous access to data on the vital indicators of patients.
Watching far off state change of patients, doctors can timely contact medical personnel on duty in Atlanta and by means of bidirectional audio-and video conference in high resolution to give necessary instructions, to consult on the arising questions. According to project participants, it will reduce risk of emergence of complications, time of stay of patients in resuscitation and will increase survival.
Referring to researches, partners in the project reported: in the organizations using the Philips eICU program death rate decreased by 26%, and the period of stay of patients in chambers of intensive therapy was reduced by 20% in comparison with departments without the system of remote monitoring.
Today the system of the integrated medical care can significantly increase quality of care after patients. In the conditions of growth of the population, lack of additional financing of intensive care units and resuscitation and the shortage of medical personnel such innovative developments as Philips eICU, allow to provide a continuous communication with highly qualified specialists who far off can timely give consultation or give necessary support.
