Freedom of speech and the right of people to personal privacy are under the threat because of active fight against distribution of extremist materials in the Internet. Such statement was made by the Global Network Initiative (GNI) organization created by the leading American IT companies.
The Global Network Initiative (GNI) association criticized the fight against extremism started in the world in Network under the auspices of which freedom of speech and the right of people to personal privacy are broken. This position found reflection in the new report of the organization.
The report of GNI appeared "against the background of gain of appeals from the governments to actions worldwide and also emergence of the legal acts intended for control or access restriction to online content on the ground that it allegedly radicalizes individuals, supports the terrorist organizations, or encourages violence or terror". The chairman of the board of directors of GNI Mark Stefens said: "Anti-terrorist laws are used to make silent, pursue and put in prison people around the world, including the dissidents, journalists, writers, human rights activists and ordinary citizens expressing the views through social networks". Representatives of association call for transparent actions from the governments and the IT companies in questions of removal of content or closing of user profiles which are accused of extremism[1].
