2016: Device Announcement

In December 2016, Medical Electronic Systems announced a device for the study of male seminal fluid at home. A device called Yo works in tandem with a smartphone.

The device consists of a miniature microscope connected to the phone, a chemical reagent and a plate on which a sample of sperm mixed with a special powder is applied.

The study time takes about 10 minutes, but an image showing the movement of sperm on the smartphone screen (in a special application) appears after 30 seconds.

Introduced sperm analyzer using a smartphone

Yo allows you to determine the concentration of mobile sperm - those with which the fertilization of the egg is carried out. Sperm quality testing can be done at home.

With Yo, an initial ejaculate analysis is carried out to establish the fertility of a man and identify possible diseases of the sexual system. If a deviation is detected, the man must pass an expanded spermogram in the clinic, which will give a more accurate assessment of the state of male health and the ability to conceive, as well as identify urological diseases in the body (prostatitis, varicocele, STI, etc.), if any.

A feature of Yo compared to other home sperm analyzers is the output of a video card to the smartphone showing the movement of sperm. The device is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The explosive interest in applications and wearable devices that can be used to determine the likelihood of pregnancy suggests that people are increasingly wanting to know about their ability to conceive, says Marcia Deutsch, head of Medical Electronic. - However, the bulk of these new tools are targeted at women. No other company deals with male reproductive health in the same way Medical Electronic does.
