"Globe" automated the system of budget management

On December 16, 2016 the Corus Consulting company announced project completion on creation of an automated system of budget management on the Oracle Hyperion Planning platform in network of Globus hypermarkets.

Choosing a Solution

Earlier budgeting was carried out to Globe using the tables MS Excel and MS SQL Server DBMS. As for the last few years the amount of business of the company promptly grew and the volume of the collected and analyzed data increased, there was a risk that the used tools will not provide required functionality: will not allow to adjust quickly the budget, to collect several versions of budgets and to model the scenario of development of the company. Besides, it was required to involve technical specialists to making changes in a system. It led to understanding that other, more powerful and convenient tool with a scaling option is necessary.

As the most suitable technology tool the Oracle Hyperion Planning platform, and the contractor of the project – Corus Consulting Group, Oracle Platinum Partner having necessary specializations and long-term experience of process automation of budgeting was selected.

Project Results

An opportunity to carry out scenario modeling became one of significant project deliverables – a system automatically recalculates the budget on the basis of a number of macroeconomic indicators and other premises that allows to compare several scenarios of development of the company.

During the project the existing budgeting model was improved: the methodology of budgeting of purchases and the movement of stocks is developed, techniques of preparation of budgets of hypermarkets with detailing to department and a technique of planning of budgets of new hypermarkets are specified. Integration of the new tool with the corporate data warehouse allowed to obtain quickly necessary data for preparation of the forecast of budget implementation.

Important request of the customer was the possibility of maintenance of a system by business users. To minimize need of involvement of technical specialists in the future, the integrator provided a number of trainings for the staff of finance division of the client on a test stage. Independent preparation of a system for start by forces of employees of the functional customer became a result of these trainings.

"During the project we created the budget of the company for 2016-2017 financial year and the mid-term plan for three years in a new system. Its implementation allowed us to find more time for data analysis and to minimize time for technical works on data of the budget.
