2024: Global Power Bank Sales Reach $14.74 Billion for the Year

In 2024, the global powerbank market amounted to $14.74 billion. More than 40% of global sales were in the Asia-Pacific region. Such data are contained in a Fortune Business Insights study, the results of which were published in mid-September 2025.

One of the main drivers of the market is the growing penetration of smartphones. Globally, there are 7.21 billion smartphones (many people own multiple phones), according to Exploding Topics, released in mid-June 2025. Such devices account for 94.2% of all devices used for Internet access. To replenish the energy reserve of these gadgets on the road or away from the electric network, their owners are increasingly using power banks.

The industry has a positive impact on the continuous development of mobile Internet access, including the expansion of 5G infrastructure. According to estimates by the World Advertising Research Center (WARC), 2 billion users access the Internet exclusively through their smartphones, while 58.3% of all Internet traffic in the world comes from mobile devices. E-commerce is gaining momentum: people around the world are increasingly shopping in online stores and marketplaces through cellular devices. The popularity of mobile games, streaming audio and video services, as well as all kinds of social platforms is growing. Fearing to be left without access to the Network due to the discharged battery, consumers purchase backup external batteries.

The authors of the study call the growing popularity of outdoor activities another stimulating factor. Away from urban infrastructure, users require power banks to charge a variety of gadgets - from smartphones and smartwatches to wireless headphones and cameras. Technological advances are of great importance. We are talking about fast and wireless charging systems, integration of solar panels, etc. Innovations allow you to improve the performance of power banks and expand their functionality.

One of the market restrictions, according to analysts, is the constant changes in export-import policy and significant tax rates: this leads to an increase in the cost of products and an increase in the volume of counterfeit products. Counterfeit power banks are made using low-quality components, which can cause various problems during their operation - up to the failure of the device to which power is supplied.

Fortune Business Insights segments the market into universal and wireless power banks, as well as products with an integrated solar panel. In 2024, the lion's share of revenue was provided by the first type of solutions - 60.36%. The battery type is dominated by lithium-ion cells with 72.2%, and the capacity - models with 5000-19999 mA·ch with 56.72%. Geographically, the Asia-Pacific region leads, accounting for 43.89% of sales, or $6.47 billion. Globally, significant industry players are:

In 2025, the global powerbank market is expected to reach $15.56 billion. Fortune Business Insights analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR will be 6.15%. Thus, by 2032, costs may increase to $23.64 billion.[1]

2022: Global Powerbank Market Size Reaches $13.48 Billion

At the end of 2022, the volume of the global powerbank market reached $13.48 billion. The growth of the industry is facilitated by the growing penetration of smartphones, tablets and other gadgets, the owners of which require a backup power supply away from the electric network. This is stated in a study by the consulting company Grand View Research, the results of which were published in May 2023.

Despite the rapid development of technology, portable device batteries have limited capacity, increasing the need for power banks, the report noted. In 2022, in the total volume of such sources, models with a capacity of 8,000 to 20,000 mA·ch accounted for approximately 35% of all sales. Many consumers choose power banks with the ability to replenish the energy supply from the built-in solar panel. Some redundant power supplies can be charged from a connected wind turbine. Individual models support fast charging protocols such as Qualcomm's Quick Charge.

At the end of 2022, power banks equipped with a lithium-ion battery accounted for 80.4% of all supplies. Asia Pacific dominated globally with a 50.6% share of total revenue. E-commerce platforms accounted for 52.9% of powerbank sales in 2022.

In 2023, the world supply of power banks is estimated at $17.78 billion. In the period up to 2030, the CAGR (average annual growth rate in complex percentages) is expected at 8.3%. As a result, in 2030 the volume of the market under consideration could reach $31.06 billion. Analysts at Grand View Research believe that during the period under review, the segment of devices with built-in solar cells will grow by an average of 9.3% per year. In the segment of power banks based on lithium-polymer batteries, CAGR is predicted at 10.3%.[2]

2015: Market size - $6.7 billion

According to analyst firm Allied Market Research, the global portable battery market reached $6.733 billion in 2015. By 2022, sales of these devices will grow by an average of 23.3% per year and amount to $29.6 billion.

Most of the global implementation (more than 33%) of portable batteries in 2015 fell on North America. This market will grow by 20% annually between 2016 and 2022, the researchers predict.

The second largest market for such batteries is Asia Pacific, which took just under one-third of the market's revenue in 2015. It is expected that by 2022 this market will become the largest in the world.

The highest demand among consumers in 2015 was for batteries with a capacity of 9500 to 12,499 mAh, which accounted for more than 25% of the market in monetary terms. At the same time, experts believe that the fastest growing segments will be devices with a capacity of 12,500 - 15,499 and more than 15,500 mAh, sales of which will increase by 26.5% and 31.7%, respectively, annually during 2016-2022. Sales of the most capacious solutions will rise as the capacity of the batteries built into smartphones and tablets grows, the study says.

Consumers buy portable batteries most often to charge smartphones: in 2015, more than 50% of batteries were purchased for this purpose.

The leaders in the market of portable batteries for charging electronics in Allied Market Research include the following companies:
