Volvo was the first to connect cars to Skype for Business

Customers: Volvo Cars

Mechanical and Instrument Engineering

Contractors: Microsoft
Product: Skype for Business (ранее Microsoft Lync)
Second product: Microsoft Cortana

Project date: 2016/12

At the end of December 2016, it became known about the appearance of the Skype for Business service in Volvo Cars. The Chinese company became the first automaker to equip its vehicles with access to this Microsoft VoIP service.

Skype for Business will be integrated with the electronics of only the most expensive Volvo cars: the XC90 crossover, S90 sedan and V90 station wagon. A separate tab for the service will be added to the infotainment systems of these machines, which can be controlled using the touch screen or buttons on the steering wheel.

Motorists will be able to call and receive calls via Skype, organize conferences (including by video link) with several interlocutors at the same time and use other functions of this Internet service. The ability to record conversations for subsequent listening will also be available.

We've all been in this situation where you're sitting in a car trying to join a conference call. And it all ended with you either dropping your phone or forgetting the long password to connect, "says Anders Tylman-Mikiewicz, vice president of consumer communications services at Volvo. - Skype for Business is another big step towards our automotive communication products. With the development of self-driving machines, we see a future in which flexible office tools built into cars will reduce the time spent at work.

In addition to Skype for Business, another Microsoft service will appear in Volvo cars - the Cortana voice assistant, which will be used by drivers to solve everyday tasks while driving (viewing the weather, setting reminders in the calendar, etc.).[1]
