Scientists URFA develop powders of spherical shape for 3D-printers

Scientists of Ural Federal University develop the production technology of metal powders of spherical shape and dimension from 5 to 40 microns. By means of 3D-printinga such powders can be used for production of responsible parts in aircraft industry, the space industry, medicine and production of a jewelry. Today at the university creation of experimental laboratory installation which operation principle consists in fusion spraying by a stream of inert gas approaches end.

"Our project belongs to area of additive technologies which actively are implemented now the advanced industrial countries in technology chains of the different industries — the manager of educational laboratory at department of technology of art processing of materials Stanislav Gerasimov says. — Such technology allows to make bio-compatible implants for stomatology, surgery, traumatology, it can be used by production of blades of turbines of aircraft engines, elements of engines of spacecrafts and art jewelry. Many enterprises of defense industry complex also show great interest to this technology".

The primary method used in 3D-printinge of metals is called method of the selection laser agglomeration. For this method the powders received on the technology offered by innovators URFA are necessary. Thanks to new technology it is possible to receive powders from different metals and alloys, including precious metals: gold, silver, platinum group metals, titanium and its alloys, iron and its alloys, aluminum and also non-metallic materials — ceramics and oxide of zirconium. Feature of the offered technology — a possibility of receiving powders with strictly set properties.
