Galaxy VX is the effective, scalable technological solution of the organization of uninterrupted power supply focused on large data centers, industrial application.

Application in devices of a series of the advanced patented solutions — the four-level inverter and a power saving mode of ECOnversion — reduces operating expenses, and use of the built-in reservation allows to create the failsafe systems according to scheme N+1. Expansion of power of the Galaxy VX UPS is possible as within 1500 kW (with a step of 250 kW), and in higher range — due to parallel connection of several systems.

Key feature of all Galaxy UPSes of series V is readiness for adverse conditions: it and the broad range of input voltages (up to 600 V), and long-run job with preserving of all parameters at temperatures to + 40C inclusive and also the powerful charger. The UPS also allows to install traditional lead-acid batteries and solutions based on flywheels. Existence of the big color LCD display with support of Russian, a possibility of the choice of a method of a cable entry (top/bottom) without additional accessories and a possibility of free carrying out stress testing without connection of real loading (SPoT function) guarantee convenience both when commissioning, and at further operation of the UPS.

Implementation of function of smoothing of peaks of consumption

The Schneider Electric company announced on April 12, 2018 expansion of functionality of the UPS of a line Galaxy VX with a power range from 500 kW to 1500 kW. Intended for ensuring uninterrupted power of large data centers and industrial platforms of the solution now support a possibility of external control by the power consumed from the power supply network in the mode of peak clipping on consumption (peak shaving). On a control signal of the UPS can reduce the power consumed from the power supply network, having taken at the same time a necessary part of power from batteries.

Thanks to this function the loading connected to the UPS will receive the necessary volume of power, and the user will be able to configure the level when which exceeding will join the restriction mode, depth of discharge of batteries and also a charge algorithm in this mode. Galaxy VX UPSes interact under the SNMP protocols and RS-485/Modbus with external systems for activation of the mode of peak clipping on consumption, proceeding from the measured power supply network parameters of an object in its different parts and also information on last switchings and settings — for management Ecostruxure Microgrid Advisor (the hardware-software solution Schneider Electric allowing to provide flexible management with power on an object for its optimal use) can be used. At this UPS continues to work in the mode of double conversion and carries out the main objective: protection loading from problems in network of power supply.

Use of similar technology is most justified on objects where power supply networks work at a limit, and the customer wants to lower loading, without having an opportunity to carry out their upgrade. A key factor of a possibility of implementing solution is inconstancy of power consumption with pronounced maxima and minima that is characteristic both of IT infrastructures, and of some industrial loadings — Pavel Ponomarev, the development manager told Three-phase UPSes of division IT Division of Schneider Electric company. — For more predictable and long-term operation of the Galaxy VX UPS with support of the mode of peak clipping on loading we recommend to use it with Li-ion batteries (Li-Ion). Such solution will be the most rational thanks to a possibility of Li-Ion-batteries to provide more than 10-fold quantity of cycles of charge/discharge in comparison with lead acid accumulators and economically justified in projects where duration of the smoothed peaks is limited in tens of minutes.

2017

Expansion of the Galaxy VX series

On July 27, 2017 the Schneider Electric company announced development of a line of scalable uninterruptible power supply units of the Galaxy VX series to the power range of 500-1000 kW.

The UPSes senior models with powers of 1000, 1250 and 1500 kW are filled up with devices of 500-1000 kW. Models will provide protection against failures of power supply to the large data processing centers requiring smaller initial power will allow the companies to change an initial configuration of the solution on a measure of increase in business needs.

The Galaxy VX UPS is created on the Galaxy VM platform, differing from it in single electrical power factor on an exit and bigger power on a power cabinet (250 kW) at identical dimensions.

All UPSes of the Galaxy VX series allow to add quickly additional power cabinets at increase in loading or to provide reservation in process of change of requirements to the system of uninterrupted power. The high scalability of Galaxy VX reduces costs at each design stage, installation and operation of the solution.

Demand for cloud computing and development of Internet of Things are an incentive for upgrade of infrastructure of data centers. In the world of continuous data transmission the stable and protected power supply is crucial for ensuring the round-the-clock smooth operation and availability of services. A downtime has very high price, not to mention performance penalty, harm of reputation of the enterprise and causing damage to trusted relationships with partners. Uninterruptible power supply units of Galaxy VX will allow large data centers to reach the high density of power and will provide effective protection of the connected IT equipment. As energy resources become scanty and expensive, the efficiency of the electric power appears the most important performance measure when choosing the UPSes large systems.

The Chetyrekhurovevy inverter works with the reduced switching tension (in comparison with three-level) that provides big reliability at high temperatures. Thanks to the architecture the ECOnversion mode eliminates the majority of the defects inherent in the traditional ECO mode, providing a charge of batteries, instant switching to work from batteries at loss of mains voltage and existence of an active harmonic filter on an input, eliminating with that need of installation of the additional hardware. The UPS allows to configure work on the schedule with automatic switching between these modes (double conversion, the ECO mode, ECOnversion) that allows to provide the balanced approach to requirements of different data centers.

All UPSes of the Galaxy VX series are supplied with the powerful charger (up to 35% of UPS face value) and are completely compatible to different modern storage systems of energy, including li-ion cells (Li-ion). Similar symbiosis allows to receive the balanced solution, having twice saved on the occupied space and weight of the solution, at simultaneous reduction in cost of ownership, increase in service life and improvement of controllability of a system.

The Galaxy VX UPS is completely compatible to the software for monitoring of StruxureWare Data Center Expert and has possibilities of remote administration.

Replenishment of the Galaxy V series

On January 24, 2017 the Schneider Electric company announced expansion of a line of the UPS of the Galaxy V series by the Galaxy VX models with a power of 1000 kW, 1250 kW and 1500 kW.

In devices the patented solutions - the 4-level inverter and a power saving mode of ECOnversion are used. Creation of the failsafe systems with reservation of N+1 is possible on the basis of the built-in reservation, expansion of power is possible - within 1500 kW (with a step of 250 kW), and above - by parallel connection of several systems.

The UPS of a line Galaxy V are ready for operation in adverse conditions:

  • broad range of input voltages (up to 600 V),
  • long-run job with preserving of parameters at temperatures up to +40 °C inclusive,
  • powerful charger.

Thanks to the last, the UPS can provide fast battery charging that is relevant for the modern solutions created using Li-ion of technologies. Except them, the UPS supports lead-acid batteries and solutions using flywheels.

The UPS complex is equipped with the color LCD display with support of Russian, there is a possibility of the choice of a method of a cable entry (top/bottom) without additional accessories, there is a possibility of free carrying out stress testing without connection of real loading (SPoT function). All this maintains the maximum convenience, both when commissioning, and in the course of day-to-day running of the UPS.

When choosing modern UPSes of such capacities customers want to receive the most reliable solution with optimal operating costs and along with it to reduce the capital expenditure. A possibility of step-by-step accumulation of power of the UPS in process of growth of power of loading and full frontal service - all this allows to save on a capital expenditure, and existence of the innovative technology of the inverter - allows to increase reliability of the solution and to receive efficiency more than 96% in a normal operation mode (double conversion) and more than 99% in the ECOnversion mode with the broad range of capacities of loadings. Thanks to a combination of zero switching time from the ECOnversion mode in the mode of double conversion, ensuring recharge of batteries and correction of entrance electrical power factor use of this technology is completely safe for loading.
