White Paper: Storage

AFF All-Flash A-Series is a series of enterprise-class storage devices.

2021: NetApp AFF A900

On December 21, 2021, NetApp, an international manufacturer of cloud data management solutions and services, introduced the development in its portfolio of all-flash storage - NetApp AFF A900 based on NetApp ONTAP Enterprise Edition. The AFF A900 provides organizations with storage performance to accelerate critical enterprise databases and applications, as well as security and reliability to keep customer data available and secure.

NetApp AFF All-Flash

According to the company, the NetApp AFF A900 is a more productive next-generation system than the previous version of the AFF A700, it has adequate fault tolerance and is managed using the data management software NetApp ONTAP Enterprise Edition. ONTAP Enterprise Edition is a data management software that comes complete with all the components your business needs, including unified SAN, NAS, NVMe-oF, and S3 support, built-in data protection with advanced anti-malware capabilities. With hybrid multi-cloud offerings, companies can scale their infrastructure to any cloud as needed by integrating ONTAP with hyperskalers.

As the value of mission-critical business applications and massive enterprise data management workloads continues to grow over the next few years (IDC Enterprise Infrastructure Workloads Forecast for 2021-2025), enterprises will need performance, security, and operational simplicity to move and scale workloads to a selected cloud. Products such as the AFF A900 and ONTAP Enterprise from NetApp allow organizations to run modern business applications and databases in the local data center or scale them into the cloud.

NetApp The AFF A900 provides the following features:

  • Proper performance
    • The AFF A900 works with various enterprise databases, such as Oracle, SAP HANA, Microsoft SQL Server, and virtualized applications. Due to low latency of about 100 μs, the AFF A900 optimizes performance by 50% compared to previous models (AFF A700 with similar protocols).
    • With enterprise NVMe/TCP solutions in addition to NVMe/FC, companies can leverage advanced network connectivity without additional network infrastructure investment. Enterprises can also scale and grow with unified multi-protocol SAN, NAS, and object storage support, providing flexibility for enterprise storage.

  • Proper data protection - ONTAP Enterprise Edition and Anti-Ransomware Suite provide organizations with built-in data protection and anti-malware solutions to both prevent and recover from attacks to prevent data loss and economic costs.
  • Simplified, non-disruptive upgrades-The AFF A900 is available as a non-disruptive upgrade for the A700, optimizes upgrades, and eliminates critical operations with enhanced reliability, availability, and health (RAS) capabilities.

2019: AFF A320 midrange storage output with NVMe end-to-end support

On May 13, 2019, NetApp announced the release of the mid-tier AFF A320 storage with support for end-to-end NVMe protocol, which allows customers to:

2017: All Flash FAS (AFF) A700s Enterprise Array

On February 2, 2017, the company NetApp introduced the All Flash FAS (AFF) A700s corporate array in a compact case. The device delivers high levels of performance, enabling upgrades IT Infrastructure for demanding enterprise applications, analytics, and cloud integration.

NetApp AFF A700s, (2016)

NetApp AFF A700s is part of the AFF All-Flash A-Series portfolio, which includes the A200 entry-level system, the A300 mid-level system, and the A700 high-level system. According to the company, A-Series storage systems provide scalable performance combined with data management and protection functions, including when moving between traditional disks, Flash and the cloud[1]

The technology is based on the cluster architecture of NVMe, managed by the operating system for storage. NetApp ONTAP The array supports the integration of SSD 15TB SSDs, 32Gb Fibre Channel , and 40Gb connectivity. Ethernet

The compact form factor provides ~ 11x power savings, allows you to use 19 times less space and reduce maintenance and support costs by 67%. All this helps to significantly reduce the cost of storage and maintenance. System performance > 600 thousand IOPS, storage capacity - 1 PB.

The technology solution has the ability to connect to public cloud resources within AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud and others, while maintaining maximum control and management of data, both on the customer's resources and in the cloud.
