1993-2006

Karl Bass began work in Autodesk in 1993 when the company purchased Ithaca Software company founded by him. Then Bass became the general and technical director of Autodesk. Then he left Autodesk to found other company which was also purchased afterwards by Autodesk therefore Karl Bass returned to the structure of CAD producer. He headed Autodesk in 2006.

2017: Departure from the job of the CEO of Autodesk

On February 7, 2017 it became known of Karl Bass's leaving from a post of the CEO of Autodesk. The new head is not selected yet.

Karl Bass reported that on February 8, 2017 he leaves a post of the head of Autodesk to find more time for personal interests, including robotics. According to him, for it and for the company the best time for replacement of the leadership came.

At the same time Bass will remain in Board of Directors of Autodesk and will advise the new CEO when that is appointed. For search of the CEO the special committee is created. Also formed a temporary team of heads which will manage daily affairs of the company before arrival of the successor of Bass.

Bass says that creation of culture became his main achievement in Autodesk.

When I came there, I thought that each CEO made important decisions on purchases. We needed to purchase or make something. But finally the company built the correct culture, employed the correct people and directed them to creation of the correct things — Karl Bass in an interview to the The Wall Street Journal newspaper told .

During the management of Autodesk of Karl Bass of a stock of the company significantly grew in price. Only from February, 2015 to February of the 2016th quotations rose almost by 80%.^[1]
