2017: Arrest for fraud with invoicing of drugs

At the end of January, 2017 the American radiologist Albert Koui was sentenced to a prison term and payment of a penalty for illegal distribution of strong anesthetics of medicines. It is said in the publication of the WBFO News edition.

Doctor Kovi were it is arrested in 2015 for the fact that the acquaintance wrote out recipes on receiving the medicines containing oxycodone and a hydrocodon during 2010-2014. Charge knows at least of 280 recipes. Some acquaintances of Koui took this medicine, and some returned them to the doctor who had a drug addiction from these tablets. Afterwards Kovi wrote applications for payments of an insurance indemnity for the written-out recipes in insurance companies.

During judicial listening which took place on January 31, 2017 Albert Koui said that it had no addiction to the anesthetizing tablets.

The district court judge Lawrence Vilardo sentenced Kovi to two years of imprisonment and payment of a penalty in the amount of $24 thousand for benefit of insurance companies which he deceived, sending applications for receiving compensations. The edition notes that the doctor got off with rather light sentence: as much as possible threatened it up to 20 years of prison and $1 million a penalty.

The judge did not begin to demand additional payments from Koui, having noted its bad financial position and the fact that the doctor is a trustee of the minor child.

Before adjudgement the lawyer Koui asked court to pay attention that his client had no intentions to get profit on the actions, unlike five other doctors of the western New York who shortly before it were condemned for similar crimes.[1]

In the concluding remarks in court Albert Koui told the following:

I am grateful to those who forced me to bear responsibility for the acts. I am not the victim.
