The telecommunications operator MTS announced at the beginning of the year a second victory in the competition for a subsidy from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in which the operator will provide mobile communications to seven more small settlements of the Arctic and northern regions of the republic. The subsidy is intended for the purchase and delivery of equipment, as well as for the construction, installation and commissioning work for the organization of cellular communications in the villages of Nychaly (112 people) of the Allaikhovsky ulus, Barylas (98 people), Tokuma (147 people) and Osokhtokh (133 people) of the Verkhoyansky ulus, Suon-Tyl (131 people), Kusl (9 people) and Chumpu-Kumpu. It is planned that the work will be completed in the second half of this year.
"Itis difficult for most residents of our country to imagine that there are still settlements whose residents do not have the opportunity not only to use the Internet, but also to make elementary telephone calls. The provision of communications to such areas most often requires higher investments, therefore, the coordinated work of the state and mobile operators is important in such projects. We welcome such socially responsible companies that are introducing new technologies, and intend to further develop dialogue with them, "said Alexander Borisov, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
"Yakutia is one of the most difficult regions of the Far East to organize cellular communications. The vast territory, low population density, harsh climate and lack of year-round road communication negatively affect the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the region. Despite this, today the MTS network provides about 80% of the republic's residents. But in the territory of the region there are still places where there is no cellular signal, and this problem can be solved only with the participation of the regional government. We are glad that for the second year in a row we are the ones chosen by the government to implement such a socially significant project for the region as providing remote Arctic settlements with communications, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that modern technologies are included in the lives of more people, "said Konstantin Zimin, director of the MTS branch in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
In 2016, MTS already won a grant to receive a subsidy from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) for the construction of networks in two villages in the Arctic and northern regions of the republic: Uyandino (154 people) Ust-Yansky ulus, Chkalovo (155 people) Allaikhovsky ulus.
According to Resolution No. 278 of the Government of Yakutia of August 12, 2015 ("On the procedure for granting a grant in the form of a subsidy for providing small settlements of the Arctic and northern regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) with a population of 100 to 200 people mobile radiotelephone (cellular) communication in 2015 "), the grant is provided from the budget of the republic, but within the limits of the budget obligations of the Ministry of Communications of Yakutia under the state program" Development of the Information Society in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) for 2012-2019.
