2017: Announcement
In February, 2017 the Medtronic company provided as it claims, the first-ever surgical sewing device with a feedback. The new device received the name Signia.
The announced surgical stapler received Adaptive Firing technology which measures force necessary for connection of bodies and fabrics at transactions, and automatically changes the speed of operation of the device for uniform imposing of surgical brackets.
A system simplifies process of sewing together and raises a transaction aseptichnost, reduces blood loss and a travmatization of fabrics, provides exact adaptation of edges of the connected fabrics with uniform compression them in the area of a seam that creates favorable conditions for regeneration of fabrics in the postoperative period.
Human fabric has different thickness depending on body and a part of a body. For example, in an upper part of a stomach it the thinnest, and in its lower part about a small intestine fabric, on the contrary, differs in big thickness. The Adaptive Firing technology detects variability of thickness of fabric and as appropriate configures Signia work.
The opportunity for work one hand became one more feature of innovation. The doctor can use the second hand, for example, to hold the sewn-up area. A feedback of the device with the surgeon is provided due to sound and visual indication of important information.
Signia is the first in own way surgical sewing system which reflects our aspiration the first to create low-invasive surgical solutions — the senior vice president and the president of department of Surgical Innovations which is a part of division of Medtronic Minimally Invasive Therapies Group says. — Finally the medicine should help patients the best quicker to cope with pain. Minimum invasive surgery solves this problem. |
Medtronic is going to release Signia at first on the markets of the USA, Western Europe and Japan. In other regions the device will appear within 2018 financial year of the company.[1]
