2017: Appointment as CEO of ServiceNow

On February 27, 2017, ServiceNow, which provides cloud services to automate business processes, announced the appointment of John Donahue as the new CEO. The statement about the change of management brought down the company's quotes, since, according to analysts, the new CEO significantly reduces the chances of selling the vendor.

Frank Slootman, who led ServiceNow for a long time, will remain in the company as chairman of the board. According to him, the board of directors began implementing the plan to change leadership two years earlier. Donahue will officially take over ServiceNow in April 2017.

The change of CEO of ServiceNow takes place against the background of the company's development of new areas, such as systems for managing operations and personnel resources.

We believe that the decision to join Donahue to ServiceNow, which could eliminate rumors of a sale or merger of the company in the short term, should be regarded as quite constructive as the company turns into a mega-software manufacturer, said Macquarie analyst Sarah Hindlian[1]

2024: Firing as Nike CEO

On September 19, 2024, the American manufacturer of sports goods Nike announced that the president and CEO of the company, John Donahue, would resign. Former Nike top executive Elliot Hill will take his place.

The departure of Donahue, who has led Nike since January 2020, comes as sales growth has deteriorated and the company's stock price has fallen 25%. He will leave the post of president of Nike, and will also leave the board of directors of the company on October 13, 2024. At the same time, Donahue will continue to work as a consultant to Nike until January 31, 2025, helping to ensure the transfer of duties to a new leader.

It has been an honor and a privilege to work for this incredible company and I will always appreciate my time at Nike. It became clear that a change of leadership was needed, and Elliott is the right person to do that, "Donahue said, commenting on his resignation.

At the same time, Mark Parker, executive chairman of Nike, thanked Donahue for his contribution to the company as president and CEO, as well as a member of the board of directors. Parker especially noted Donahue's role in leading the company during the COVID-19 pandemic. After removing severe epidemiological restrictions, Nike was able to increase sales of casual sportswear, which significantly increased revenue.

The new head of Nike Hill began working for this company in 1998. Throughout his 32-year career at Nike, he held senior positions in Europe and North America, contributing to business growth to more than $39 billion. Until his retirement in 2020, he served as president of the consumer market, managing all of Nike and Jordan Brand's commercial and marketing operations.[2]
