Remote point of presence - IaaS-service for the organization of the communication hub in Moscow or St. Petersburg with direct connection to points of exchange of traffic.
On March 28, 2017 the Selectel company announced service representation "A remote point of presence".
According to the statement of the company, the service allows to organize during the day the communication hub in Moscow or St. Petersburg with direct connection to points of exchange of traffic. As a part of service the provider offers data transmission channel to a peer-to-peer point, necessary hardware infrastructure on service model (IaaS). For March 28, 2017 within service connection to points of exchange of traffic of MSK-IX and SPB-IX is available.
It is possible to organize a point of presence at data center of class Tier3 on the basis of one or several dedicated servers or virtual machines in Selectel cloud. Process is automated: necessary operations are performed from a control panel.
The similar solution does not require finance costs on purchase of server and network equipment, the provider – the telecom operator – a point of exchange of traffic" saves from need of signing of the contracts with a chain of suppliers "and to service them, reduces time of the organization of a point of presence.
The service will be interesting, first of all, to content generators and content providers, especially in video segment. It not only video hostings and video on demand of the application. Today cloud communication services, applications for video surveillance, educational platforms and platforms for online broadcastings become active generators of video traffic. Direct connection to peer-to-peer points allows to improve network connectivity and to optimize network routes, trying to obtain fall forward of a response of web resources, to save on payment of services to transit and higher operators, not to depend on restrictions of volume of available traffic. Besides, it is an opportunity to establish local interaction with authorative DNS servers of the domains RU, COM, NET, etc., with DNS servers of a root domain that reduces the probability of problems because of DDoS attacks and failures on trunk communication channels.
